Redcurrie #1 Posted November 7, 2003 I have been playing Dr. Mario on my NES for who knows how many nights in a row, each time saying, "Just one more game" about a dozen times. I can't get past Level 18 (Med Speed) yet. Has anyone ever made it all the way to 20?
joeybastard #2 Posted November 7, 2003 I suck at Dr. Mario but my wife is excellent at it. She has probably made level 20. I'll ask her.
Miqorz #3 Posted November 7, 2003 Oh man I love this game but UBER suck at it.. My sister can kick my ass in that and Tetris any day of the week..
Redcurrie #4 Posted November 7, 2003 I am fine at the higher levels as long as I'm in "the zone" and concentrating. The minute that you lose your focus, you're toast! I also like Tetris and Tetris 2 for the NES and can get quite wrapped up in Puyo Pop, Fortress, Tetris Blast and most of all, Pokemon Puzzle Challenge for the GB. I also like non-action puzzle games like Denki Blocks and Kwirk. Any other suggestions?
ubersaurus #5 Posted November 7, 2003 My sister used to take my NES, Dr. mario, and head up to her room with em for days at a time. It's definitely a good game if you get the hang of it.
chrisbid #6 Posted November 7, 2003 i can beat level 20 on high speed, you get a cute little ending animation. Although at top speed, i need a lot of tries to beat the stage. once i get past the top 1/4 of the screen, the rest of the board is smooth sailing
Scooterb23 #7 Posted November 8, 2003 I hate this game. It could have something to do with the fact that my sister has beaten the game on level 20...high speed. I can't get through level 9 on medium speed. But really, I find it very boring...and can't stand to play it for more than 10 mintes.
RCmodeler #8 Posted November 8, 2003 What's it about? You operate on someone? (Think Operation.)
JB #9 Posted November 8, 2003 What's it about? You operate on someone? (Think Operation.) It's a puzzle game. You match pill colors to viruses.
Video #10 Posted November 8, 2003 Man, I love this game, it was right up there with Tetris back in the day. Pile on the pills, and pop the viruses. Combos were great IMO. Today, I love it even better than tetris, probably because I didn't play it all the time like Tetris. The music has an awesome beat to it, Love that soundtrack. I don't all the time, but regularly beat up to level 20 on easy, and a few times on med. I don't think I ever managed it on hard though, just to damn fast. I still want to get another Gameboy game and play some link Dr Mario with a friend on the go sometime. It doesn't pop up as much as some other games though, wonder why
chrisbid #11 Posted November 8, 2003 the gameboy version is extra hard, since the playfield isnt as tall as it is in the NES version. in the NES version, there are three rows of empty space on level 20, making it possible for you to eliminate the top row of viruses. In the gameboy version, there are only 2 rows of empty space, a person has to either get underneath the top row, or eliminate the viruses horizontally. In Dr Wario, which can be unlocked on the game Wario Ware, the virus total only increases by 3 with every level instead of 4. So Level 20 has only 63 viruses instead of 84 on the original. I played a game for 5 hours straight, breaking 1 million points, and just stopped on purpose from boredom.
Nateo #12 Posted November 8, 2003 Oh man, I play this game a bunch on my TI-83 plus duiring school (that is, AFTER I finish my work ). But man, that game's a blast. I didn't discover it until a few months ago when I bought it for my NES and absolutely loved it. Of course, the only drawback to the TI game, of course, no music. The music is awesome on the NES. My sister insists the game boy one is impossible after a certain point, where there's just no room to maneuver the pills anymore. You could always pick up the SNES or N64 versions of the game
chrisbid #14 Posted November 8, 2003 its not impossible, but its just dam hard. once you get past the first couple of rows of viruses, the game gets much easier
Brad2600 #15 Posted November 10, 2003 I happen to love playing Dr.Mario as well. I've never gotten very far on it but when I do play, it always turns into a marathon session.
Video #16 Posted November 10, 2003 Doesn't the GameBoy version repeate Level 20 once you beat it? I mean, there's not much room to add more viruses, but it may speed up slightly. Boy, it's hard enough just beating 20, then doing it again. Yeah< I bought WarioWare because I heard about DRMario being on it. Over all, I was dissappointed in WarioWare, and DR Wario was way to easy.
DeV0 #17 Posted November 10, 2003 I remember playing dr mario for almost 8 hours between sydney and Hong kong. I love those airline nintendo setups! And i love dr mario.
chrisbid #18 Posted November 10, 2003 Levels beyond 20 just keep the same number of viruses as level 20, i think the max is level 24, which just repeats.
Raijin Z #19 Posted November 11, 2003 According to all of your posts, I'm the greatest Dr. Mario player in the world. Well, specifically on the gameboy version. Did you know that if you pull off an avalanche (think Kirby's Avalanche, Puyo *) with viruses or spare pieces of pills, the Starman theme from SMB plays until your next pill drops? Fucking awesome. I don't know if it's in the NES version, though, because I always fuck my stacks up when playing in color.
chrisbid #20 Posted November 11, 2003 thats only in the gameboy version i normally dont go for a lot of chains, two or three at a time is normal for me.
