ussexplorer #2 Posted November 8, 2003 You know what is sad. The mojority of those could have been games from the 80's. Later.......
Bryan #3 Posted November 8, 2003 Except for the ones where they just took a modern game and reduced the rez. I guess people thought the 2600 supported 16-bit color as long as the game was blocky enough. -Bry
Video #4 Posted November 8, 2003 I wonder if any of those people know that Custers Revenge is a real game? I don't know if that's the real box though. LOL

sku_u #7 Posted November 8, 2003 Michael Jackson Dance Party would have fit right in with the Atari 2600
NovaXpress #8 Posted November 8, 2003 The crowd around here have done much better Atari spoofs than the Fark gang. I thought their only clever one was Ms. Adventure.
Han #9 Posted November 8, 2003 I remember in a post just before the server change that we discussed the possibilities of an AA fake cart museum. I think Albert said something about maybe fixing one after the server change... Sounds like a cool idea to me, how about it Albert?
Voch #10 Posted November 9, 2003 I liked the E.T. parodies, the Parappa The Rapper screenshot, Ms. Adventure, and Mac OS 1 (shouldn't it be Mac OS I?), but there were a few that were quite tasteless. Voch

Susuwatari #12 Posted November 9, 2003 That reminds me why isn't anyone submitting all those fake 2600 games some of you made in light of the fake Airworld proto someone tried to pass off?
Han #13 Posted November 9, 2003 Heres a couple that I have done. I really think we should have an AA fake cart museum...
Lauren Tyler #14 Posted November 9, 2003 I had seen a place where you could download fake Atari cartridge pictures and Atari cartridge fonts which could be used to create your own fake games, but I can't find them anymore. Is there a place where you can do this?

AtariDude #16 Posted November 9, 2003 Some of the fakes look pretty good. I don't know if any of the pretty close to real games would have worked out but then again, there were a lot of rushed games made for the 2600 so they would have been no different than some of the games that were produced. chrisbid #17 Posted November 9, 2003 A Team vs Knight Rider was pretty decent but all of those that pixelate existing games were super lame
Susuwatari #18 Posted November 9, 2003 A Team vs Knight Rider was pretty decent Actually if I remember that one Knight Rider episode the color and style of that fake game looked very similiar to what Kitt displayed when they were chasing down bad guys. but all of those that pixelate existing games were super lame A better way to pixelate them and still look 2600-esque is to change to indexed color and use maybe 32 colors at the most. 2600 can only display a total of 128 colors and AFAIK a max of 5 colors per scan line. Then squeeze the image to 160x195 and expand it to 320x195. That will make the pixel double wide for more 2600 authentic looking view.

ApolloBoy #20 Posted November 9, 2003 Most of them are pretty bad like the Grand Theft Auto one, but I'm quite fond of this one...

Godzilla #23 Posted November 11, 2003 so what is the maximum colors per scan displayable? I didn't know 13 could be done. Heck I remember people arguing about the impossibility of the # of colors per scan line that the 3d rubiks beta displays....
Christopher Tumber #24 Posted November 11, 2003 so what is the maximum colors per scan displayable? I didn't know 13 could be done. Heck I remember people arguing about the impossibility of the # of colors per scan line that the 3d rubiks beta displays.... Well, this is one of those questions like what's the 2600's resolution? Is it 160x192 or 40x192 or something in between... You could squeeze a couple more colours in there, but it's largely just proof of concept and increasingly difficult to be able to do anything actually usefull with the result. For example, the demo I've attached does 15 colours per scanline (no screenshot this time, run the .bin if interested) and that's probably pretty much it, but actually making good use of this capability is another matter entirely... Heck I remember people arguing about the impossibility of the # of colors per scan line that the 3d rubiks beta displays.... It wasn't so much the number of colour changes per scanline, as how close the colour changes were to each other and how arbitrary the colour changes were (as opposed to completely static colours as in my little demo) Chris... colours.zip
Susuwatari #25 Posted November 12, 2003 display [...] a max of 5 colors per scan line. Uh, no. Looks like this old dog could still learn new stuff. Hypothically speaking, could one do a screen like the title screen from Adventure of Tron and do ity sideway? That is displaying all 128 colors the 2600 is capable of in a single scanline at once? If this was ever accomplished, there probably won't be any CPU cycles left for anything else.
