Jaguar PC....

Would you have bought one?

(The source of this is from 2 Atari ST and an Atari Falcon related magazine) stating that:

Atari was working on a newer Falcon with a combined Jaguar Chipset.

A Falcon with the Jaguar's power and probably much more actually.

If they had released something along the specs, would you have possibly purchased one?:

68040 (upgradeable) ?¿Mhz

32MB RAM (upgradeable) Unknown Chipset

Blitter 2 Video Graphics - Uknown Chipset Cache/Memory

MC56001 DSP (or better)

New TOS Overhaul (or better) (Jaguar OS ;) haha)

CD-ROM and 3.5" HD-DD

Tower Case or MicroCase Form

And all the other goodies that usually comes with a Falcon like

SCSI II and MIDI and the Cart Port, etc. etc.

Even add a JagCart port so you could possibly play your Jag carts & cd's on the system?

What do you think?

;)

I've heard the rumours back then and actually was waiting for the "Falcon040" or that combined machine. I think ST Format was writing about it also, but since there was no further news about these machines i ended up buying the Falcon030.

If they would have released the F040 or that combined box i would've bought it.

I doubt that it would have been Jaguar compatible though

Hello,

wasn't that the MicroBox? The thing which looked like a PS2 today?

Regards

Matthias

I could be wrong on this, but I figured the MicroBox was nothing more

then maybe a slightly enhanced Falcon030 in the MicroBox case for

users who were tired of the same old ST case.

Then the 040... well, if you see the board to the link posted above, it looks as to have a LOT of chip slots avail for all that madness :)

And its 040!

Hello,

i think the device on this picture i have stored on my harddisc (Sorry, can't say from which website it is) shows something fitting slightly better to the "micro" attribute, don't you think?

Regards

Matthias

Damn, that is cool as all get out! I have never seen that model of the Microbox before. I guess Sony copied Atari after all huh?

I don't know why, but that case reminds me of the XEGS...

No way, think about what it would look like if it was black! It is then suspiciously similar to the PS2! I remember when the design of the PS2 was first revealed and someone stumbled upon a picture of this Atari computer. Certainly made me go, "Hmmmmmmmmmm". :)

Yep, right down to the ability to stand on one end. Look at the end of this page for some pics I prepared earlier:
