Clint Thompson
Would you have bought one? (The source of this is from 2 Atari ST and an Atari Falcon related magazine) stating that: Atari was working on a newer Falcon with a combined Jaguar Chipset. A Falcon with the Jaguar's power and probably much more actually. If they had released something along the specs, would you have possibly purchased one?: 68040 (upgradeable) ?¿Mhz 32MB RAM (upgradeable) Unknown Chipset Blitter 2 Video Graphics - Uknown Chipset Cache/Memory MC56001 DSP (or better) New TOS Overhaul (or better) (Jaguar OS haha) CD-ROM and 3.5" HD-DD Tower Case or MicroCase Form And all the other goodies that usually comes with a Falcon like SCSI II and MIDI and the Cart Port, etc. etc. Even add a JagCart port so you could possibly play your Jag carts & cd's on the system? What do you think?
+Saturn
Very interesting. I would've bought one.

Ayreon
I've heard the rumours back then and actually was waiting for the "Falcon040" or that combined machine. I think ST Format was writing about it also, but since there was no further news about these machines i ended up buying the Falcon030. If they would have released the F040 or that combined box i would've bought it. I doubt that it would have been Jaguar compatible though

t.skid
It could have been a great system... sure I would like to buy one. About Falcon040/Microbox: http://www.atarimuseum.com/computers/16bit.../falcon030.html look at bottom of the page. And http://www.atarimuseum.com/computers/16bit...icrofalcon.html Thanks to Curt, as usual
Clint Thompson
Hello, wasn't that the MicroBox? The thing which looked like a PS2 today? Regards Matthias I could be wrong on this, but I figured the MicroBox was nothing more then maybe a slightly enhanced Falcon030 in the MicroBox case for users who were tired of the same old ST case. Then the 040... well, if you see the board to the link posted above, it looks as to have a LOT of chip slots avail for all that madness And its 040! Matthias
Hello, i think the device on this picture i have stored on my harddisc (Sorry, can't say from which website it is) shows something fitting slightly better to the "micro" attribute, don't you think? Regards Matthias
Clint Thompson
Wow... maybe there were going for 2 different styles or maybe it's just that, one was for the 030 in a microbox and the other bigger one on Curts site is the one that was supposed to be for the 040 with Jag chips.. Interesting...

downix
You know, there is no reason you still couldn't make one. I've almost finished mounting the Jag's custom chips up to a PCI card, it wouldn't be hard to mount one in a Milan, for example.
Tempest
I don't know why, but that case reminds me of the XEGS... Tempest
Joey Kay
I don't know why, but that case reminds me of the XEGS... I'm thinking the same... probably the grey case combined with the round blue button... Cheers! Joey
Albert
I don't know why, but that case reminds me of the XEGS... No way, think about what it would look like if it was black! It is then suspiciously similar to the PS2! I remember when the design of the PS2 was first revealed and someone stumbled upon a picture of this Atari computer. Certainly made me go, "Hmmmmmmmmmm". ..Al

Symmetry of TNG
=0) Knowing Atari they would probably name it after another predator.. I would have called it Atari - T-Rex nice it would have killed anything on the market =) ..though I would have had a 56301 dsp instead.. with 100 Motorola DSP-MIPS I could preform miracles

Ayreon
What again was Don Thomas' role at Atari and Sony? Let me guess... Collecting goodies and rare items from Atari/Sony/VMLabs and make a good buck by selling them on ebay? It wouldn't surprise me if he did sell the microbox design to Sony after all
TheGrandPubaa
What again was Don Thomas' role at Atari and Sony? I could quite possibly be wrong, but wasn't he a big ex-Atari marketing guy that Sony brought onboard for the Playstation? Maybe i'm thinking of something else...
