Atarinvader #1 Posted November 9, 2003 http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=...oducts_id=3841& Looks like a shitty Samba de Amigo to be honest, but just wondering if anyone has played this or Taiko no Tatsujin? Anyone know if there are plans for a Western release?
Happy_Dude #2 Posted November 9, 2003 This is garanteed a western release. Donky Kong = Brand recognition But I agree it does look like a crappy Samba de Amigo.
thund3r #3 Posted November 9, 2003 i wanna play this, looks like fun with the bongos!
shep #4 Posted November 9, 2003 I plan on finding Sambe de Amigo, looks like fun and I think all my pals will love it as well, and i think Donkey Konga will be just as good.....I remember when Shigeru Miyamoto complemented the game Sambe in an interview so I wasnt suprised at all when Nintendo announced the title
Atarinvader #5 Posted November 9, 2003 Samba is absolutely wicked and you're lucky that in the US it's pretty easy to find, but, I do have one of only 3,000 copies in Europe, which is cool. If you can get your hands on a full set then that's great. My nan loves it.
Ze_ro #6 Posted November 10, 2003 This might be interesting, but I can't help the feeling that they should be working on a REAL Donkey Kong game instead, rather than a rhythm game with Donkey Kong pasted into it. --Zero

How do you know they're not working on that too? On the other hand, "Donkey Kong" as a franchise wasn't very important to Nintendo until Rare made Donkey Kong Country. It may be he's fallen back to mainly guest star/villain status.
Jasoco #8 Posted November 10, 2003 I found the disc only of Samba at GS, but the Maracas are so damned expensive on eBay. I'm so curious to see what this is about, but I don't want my first experience to be with a controller on a cheap $7.99 disc only copy.
tiggerthehun #9 Posted November 10, 2003 just wondering if anyone has played this or Taiko no Tatsujin? Anyone know if there are plans for a Western release? I hear this is coming to the states Dec. 14th, but then, release dates are usually suggestions anyway. I LOVE tatsujin! Great game... and boy, do you need rythmn for that one. If I taught music, instead of English, I'd bring those into class every friday, 'cause there's ALOT to be learned from that one. Samba is still king in my book - and, A.I., I STILL owe you an arse whoopin' in Samba, if I remember correctly. My guess is that Donkey Konga is going to be AMAZING (Namco hasn't let us down on a music game yet - and I don't think Nintendo would let 'em screw up a little niche project like this one.) I imagine I'll pick up a copy eventually.

I imagine I'll pick up a copy eventually. I have pretty good rhythm, and I am really good at keeping the beat and actually singing in tune with the song that's on. But for some reason, I almost SUCK at Space Channel 5. Though, to be fair, I didn't really understand it until just before I stopped playing it last. Dones #11 Posted November 10, 2003 You could blame it on the somewhat laggy control response. Many times you would press the right key at the right time, but the game would not register it. All of this is fixed in Space Channel 5 Part 2 though. Still, only fans of the game/genre should only apply. Has anyone seen the japanese commercial? It's available for download at liksang. I think Donkey Konga will be a great rythm game. I read Nintendo has plans to release future music packs. Big N was smart in selling the game + konga controller as a combo for the price of a game (about $60). This is something that hurt SEGA when they released Samba de Amigo separate from the maracas (which alone went for about $100) at the time of its release. (Comes from not reading the instructions first and just jumping right into the game.) I could probably start it up right now and work my way a hell of a long while into it. But it's bed time. Maybe tomorrow. I still haven't figured out Chu Chu Rocket. That's another I have to get back to.
Atarinvader #13 Posted November 10, 2003 There seems to be this recent trend in impressing the Otaku in Japan by releasing weird, bizzare or just large controllers... Tekki, Taiko no Tatsujin, Samba de Amigo and now Donkey Konga. I think that the novelty of this is bound to ware off soon enough, and I think DDRs popularity is starting to dwindle in Japan anyway. BTW does anyone own a copy of Tekki?
DJGeki #14 Posted November 11, 2003 Isn't "Tekki" the Japanese name for Steel Batallion? If so, then yes. I've got it. Why?
Jasoco #15 Posted November 11, 2003 Has anyone seen the new version of "Twister"? It's called "Twister Moves". I checked one of these through my line this morning and as I grabbed it I exclaimed, "Whoa.. it's Dance Dance Revolution meets Milton Bradley.." Seems dance games are a growing part of our culture these days. Video games, board games, everything. And the most I've been into it is 10 minutes with Space Channel 5. I don't even KNOW how to play DDR. From what I gather, you have to step on the right panels as the correct symbol falls to the bottom of the screen? I saw something like that in the Arcade in Shenmue. But it was different. And when I lost, it was funny to hear him exclaim, "Rats." I would like to try Samba one day, and Konga looks like it's promising.
SteveW #16 Posted November 11, 2003 That commercial was jerky as hell.... damn WMV format.... one thing I noticed watching it was that they were playing La Bamba. In Spanish. In Japan. Which of course made me think: why? It's not like they don't have a zillion j-pop bands over there. And all those singers sing in their native language.
