RCorcoran #1 Posted November 9, 2003 Yes, I know this isn't a purist 2600 posting, but it is VCS related... Here's a screenshot of the patches I've earned so far in the Activision Anthology. I'll update this as I get more patches. Here is a list of patches earned in case you can't make out the pic very well... RCorcoran #3 Posted November 11, 2003 In this collection, I'm really not going for scores as it's not the real deal. I am, however, going after patches. 15 and counting...
Shannon #4 Posted November 11, 2003 Hehe... that's about how far I got with the anthology for the PS2... And now they got the pc version and GBA version coming soon and I gotta start all over again! hrmph...
RCorcoran #5 Posted November 16, 2003 Well, I finally earned my Pitfall 2 patch tonight. What a pain in the rear that was... I hate playing games with unresponsive controllers... My Gravis pad needs to be DX'd.
MegaManFan #6 Posted November 16, 2003 What is it about Gravis pads that they go bad so easy? I have an SNES style one I bought years ago that's totally hosed - you plug it in and it just fires off random signals non-stop.
Megamaniac #7 Posted November 16, 2003 Dumb question...I have to assume these are virtual patches? I know Activision used to give patches for real but they don't still do they?
RCorcoran #8 Posted November 16, 2003 Dumb question...I have to assume these are virtual patches? I know Activision used to give patches for real but they don't still do they? No such thing as a dumb question. No, Activision is not giving these patches away anymore. The patches you see are "virtual" given by the software in your "virtual room" within the game. PongHit #9 Posted November 16, 2003 ... Kaboom! (this game sucks with a mouse. ... Yeah, I'm sure nothing is as good as a real Atari paddle. But a mouse must be better than an analog PS2 stick! (Kaboom! on the PS2 is COMPLETELY WORTHLESS!) -PongHit

Does this mean the game itself lets you know when you've earned the patch or should I look in the scanned manuals online here at AA? If I recall correctly, the patch scores are pretty tough. If I recall correctly, the patch scores are pretty tough. Yes, the game let's you know when you've earned a patch. In fact, it also lets you know when you've unlocked special play modes, commercials, etc. as well. Frankly, I find it a little annoying as it disrupts gameplay momentarily by asking you if you want to continue. When you select a game to play, you also have the ability to view the original manual in the game, look at the box, and see a commercial (if previously unlocked). It's actually very well done. Hats off to Activision!

It would be cool if they offered for sale a mail order patch. Something with the classic Activision logo or perhaps a Activision Anthology patch. I'd pay $5 or so for something like that. RCorcoran #16 Posted November 19, 2003 Does anyone know how many different animations there are at the beginning of the game? So far I've seen Freeway, Pitfall, and Barnstorming. Those are the only three I've seen too. Perhaps with more gameplay I'll unlock more...
Scooterb23 #17 Posted November 19, 2003 Do the games use the original Activision goal scores before you get the patches in the PC version? I recall that a lot of the talk about the PS2 collection was that the requirements for most of the patches were different in that version.

Some of the games are lower than original Activision standards. Take Kaboom. Activision originally stated 3,000 points for a patch. The Remix PC edition awards a patch at 800 points. All other games are pretty close. Although I did earn my River Raid and Laser Blast 1M point patch after crossing 100,000... On the other hand, H.E.R.O, Freeway and Pitfall 2 are dead on the money with the original requirements.

Room 34 #20 Posted November 20, 2003 If I recall correctly, the patch scores are pretty tough. I've found with most Activision games that the scores needed to earn a patch were NOT really that tough. C'mon, it was a marketing gimmick! They wanted to have as many "winners" as possible... it got people excited about buying more Activision games! That said... I never bothered to take the steps necessary to get the patches as a kid...

PaulEMoz #23 Posted November 20, 2003 Thanks for the link Ron. Unfortunately I can't order online at the moment, but it's appreciated. I've tried three Gamestops and three EB Games in my area, and none of them have got it in. Oh well, I'll just have to travel farther afield, unless the missus re-activates any of her credit cards! RCorcoran #25 Posted November 24, 2003 I just bought a newer Gravis Gamepad Pro (USB) and this is much better. I earned my Stampede patch tonight with no effort at all. It's amazing the difference when you have a working/good controller.
