vanman #1 Posted November 11, 2003 When I try to bid on ebay, it automatically says I have been out bid and the price goes up. Why and how do I stop it?

vanman #3 Posted November 11, 2003 I do, but it still says I am outbid!
Room 34 #4 Posted November 11, 2003 That means someone else's proxy bid is higher than yours. Read eBay's help section, particularly the part on how proxy bidding works... bids are not instantaneous like in a live auction. People set the maximum bid they are willing to make (the "proxy") and the system automatically increments the bids as new ones come in.

holygrailvideogames.com #6 Posted November 11, 2003 This reminds me of a message that I received a few years ago. I placed a bid a lot higher than the opening bid. A newbie started bidding and kept getting outbid by my proxy bid. He sent me a message cussing at me. He said that he couldn't belive how fast I could keep outbidding him. He wanted to know if I had paid over $1,000,000 for my super fast computer.

He wanted to know if I had paid over $1,000,000 for my super fast computer. You should have offered to sell him a 'super fast computer' Theres a guy on UK ebay, newbie, who keeps outbidding me on everything I have 'marked' with a small bid. Its getting quite funny as I know hes not marking them, he's actually outbidding me with constant bids to beat my proxy. The funny thing is mostly theyre boxed commons i'm marking just to see how high they go........ I tested it the other day by bidding over him with like 5 days left, just for a laugh, sure enough within an hour or two he had outbid me What an idiot I have a feeling its some kid getting excited with daddie's ebay password...... bjk7382 #8 Posted November 11, 2003 I can't stress it enough GET A SNIPER it solves all the stupid bidding wars with newbies. It is a very valuable tool. I hardly ever actually bid anymore unless if it isn't a popular item and I know I won't get outbid.

I personally consider these an abuse of the system... and I know a lot of eBayers are a lot more annoyed by the actions of snipers than by the actions of newbies.
