Mr.FoodMonster #1 Posted November 11, 2003 Hey, I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but I found a really cheap 15 pin (game port) gamepad and all i have free on my older computer is a serial port. this machines USB dosnt work, so USB - 15 pin wont work. I have looked around online for a 15 pin - serial port connecter, but cant seem to find one. Know where i can get one?
MrRetroGamer #2 Posted November 11, 2003 Not sure if you can do that. How about a gameport add-in card, like this one, only $4: http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invti...tid=ACMGAMEPORT Do you have a free ISA slot in your computer?
Esc #3 Posted November 11, 2003 15 pin game port --> serial does not exist. You'll need to buy an add-on card that has a 15 pin game port, or get a sound blaster card with a built in 15 pin game port (the older Sound Blasters had this )
Esc #4 Posted November 11, 2003 I think I have one kicking around (a game port card) if you want it.
Ze_ro #5 Posted November 11, 2003 You can't really plug joysticks in through serial ports... there are adaptors like this to plug gameport devices into USB ports, but I guess that doesn't help you much. You'll have to buy a card with a gameport on it (Any Sound Blaster card should do nicely), or a USB card to provide USB ports instead. The 15-pin gameport is slowly becoming obsolete, so going for the USB card would probably be a better idea. --Zero
Avid Fan #6 Posted November 11, 2003 BUY THE GAMECARD I luckily still have mine, and I'm able to find cool controllers for my PC for only 5 dollars. Places cant seem to get rid of these old controllers. And their still quality, I've been using them for MAME
Mr.FoodMonster #7 Posted November 11, 2003 Yeah, i was also thinking about getting a card for it, and if its that cheap i minaswel. The thing with that computer and USB is really strange, it came from the factory not working, we swapped out for a new one, and it still didnt work, so i just never bothered. its basicly my emulator computer/old games computer. If i can get an old SB16 card with that on there it will solve 2 problems at once. Thanks for the link!
