Redcurrie #1 Posted November 13, 2003 My copy of Tunnel Runner arrived last night as did Star Fox to complete both my CBS and my Mythicon collection. Now all I need are a few more manuals to round them out. I'm looking for manuals for Star Fox, Fire Fly, Blue Print, Gorf, Mountain King, Solar Fox and Wizard of Wor if anyone has any to spare. Woo-hoo!
ATARIPITBULL #2 Posted November 13, 2003 That's great that you have completed your CBS collection, but are these loose carts, or do you have the boxes also?
Redcurrie #3 Posted November 13, 2003 That's great that you have completed your CBS collection, but are these loose carts, or do you have the boxes also? At the moment, I'm just a loose cart and manual kind of gal.....if something comes with a box, great but I'm not paying extra or seeking them out at the moment! MegaManFan #4 Posted November 13, 2003 Loose carts is the sensible way to go. If I ever decide to be a box completist it's going to take me a half dozen more bookshelves and a small fortune to do it.

Redcurrie #6 Posted November 14, 2003 When and if you do, I hope it will only cost you a small fortune. Does that include the costs for the addition that you would need to put on your house because that would be some of my cost......

When and if you do, I hope it will only cost you a small fortune. Tell me about it; I've just moved into collecting boxes a few months ago, and while 60 boxes is a drop in the bucket compared to most folks around here, it's taking up a lot of space for me, which I don't have to spare in my tiny home office (as a writer, I need room for, you know, books...and did I mention my wife is a librarian? ) It's a double-edged sword. I can't bear to buy boxes that will wind up in storage, because then what's the point of having them? On the other hand, I can't stand the thought of loads of shelfspace devoted to, um, empty boxes. Oh, and the boxes ain't cheap either....
Redcurrie #8 Posted November 14, 2003 On the other hand' date=' I can't stand the thought of loads of shelfspace devoted to, um, empty boxes.[/quote'] That brings up a question I have been meaning to ask. When I have a boxed game, I keep it all together (ie box, game, manual) but I worry that opening and closing the box to retrieve the game, manual, etc. is going to damage the box. Do other people keep them together or do you keep the carts and manuals out and just have the box on the shelf? Oh, and the boxes ain't cheap either....I only get ones with boxes if say, it is only going to cost me $.50 or so more than the cart itself. However, I am a sucker for manuals so that can bump it up a bit. I finally got all of my manuals filed (5 x 7 photo sheets in a 3-ring binder fit most of them) and it is great! Dolt #9 Posted November 14, 2003 I keep all my games together, and have the boxes separated. I keep the manuals inside the boxes, and have the boxes wrapped up in magazine bags (just like comic book bags, but bigger). Basically, I like to have them set up so that all I'd have to do to make 'em CIB is to put the game back in there. That said, I don't keep catalogs in my boxes, so it's not stricktly accurate. I have my manuals wrapped up in bags for 45s (you know, vinyl records), but I like your photo sheet idea better--I'll have to look into that this weekend. The bags work great but accessing the manuals is a drag; it would be easier if they were all in a binder.
Redcurrie #10 Posted November 14, 2003 it would be easier if they were all in a binder. It works great. The Epyx ones are too big and the Mythicon ones are dwarfed but other than that, it works well. It does seem as if the Atari ones that are multilingual are a bit bigger (I chalked it up to the same reason that British Journals are on that odd-sized paper. It didn't take me long in my Article Xeroxing career to figure out why some copiers had a 94% reduction button......) but they can be squished in with little harm. I have them filed alphabetically. Do other people keep them together or do you keep the carts and manuals out and just have the box on the shelf? I keep the boxes in separate storage, the manuals in special binders, and the carts in cart drawers (the ones recommended by this AtariAge page...they're great!). While I don't like splitting up the collection like this the boxes got to be too much to "have handy" in my little apartment and I also like having a way to quickly get at a manual. See my inventory picture link below.
MegaManFan #12 Posted November 14, 2003 I keep all my games together, and have the boxes separated. Same here. Having to constantly reopen and close the boxes would drive me nutsoid and I'd probably get tired of trying to carefully open the flaps and damage or rip something. It's hard not to crease the damn flap when you open one the FIRST time alone.

Laura Hi, i store the Boxes all in displays and on shelfs, the carts are extra stored in a special shelf which is selfmade and optimized for cart storage (maybe i'll post some pics if anyone is interested in this) and the manuals i store in clear document cases and sorted by company they are stored in office organizers. And your bill with the boxes doesn't really go up on the rare titles greetings Tom

Brad2600 #15 Posted November 14, 2003 You know, I was bidding on an auction last week that had a 5200 with games along with some boxed 2600 games. Several of those games were US Games. I almost wish I had won them. I'm nearing a complete loose collection for the following companies: -U.S Games -Activision -Imagic (only one more to go, baby!) -Fox So I'm doing quite well. Activision is done sans manuals for a few and I'm just a few carts shy on Imagic. Is the one that you're missing Atlantis II because I consider that an impossible target myself.... If I had all but that one, I'd feel like I had accomplished something! I'm way off on Fox but it gives me something to shoot for!
