A 'little' NES respect..

OK, I admit it. I was a Nintendo bigot.

 

I grew up with a Pong clone, an O2, a Vic-20, a C64, An Amiga, etc.. etc..

 

My neighbor had an Intellivision, and my friend had a 2600.

 

Not much NES exposure, so I poked fun at it all the time.

 

My wife had a Gameboy (b/w original), and that was my only real exposure to Nintendo in reality.

 

OK, so I get my PDA a bit ago. A Dell Axim X5. Get the MS pack (Pacman, MSPacman, Digdug)... great!! Get the C64 emulator. It's fun.. Try the ST emulator.. OK...

The 2600 emulator.. Not bad..

 

Then I get PocketNester...

 

Download a few games, and.. it's really really good.

 

I don't just mean the emulation. The games. They are actually really fun. They look good. They play great. And most of all, they are easy to figure out, and play.

 

I paid for PocketC64, and it's good. But for quick fun, I always seem to pull up PocketNester and play NES games.. For some reason, they translate really well to the small screen.

 

Of course, there's no Pocket 5200 or 7800 I'm aware of yet.. :-)

 

Funny how the classics are perfect for handhelds and phones!!! No polygons, just great games!!

 

When I win that lottery, I just might add an NES to my collection.

There are lots of games that were very good on the NES. Like Dragon Warrior, Final Fantasy, tetris, Contra, Nes Open, and Many, many others.

Yeah, it's not the system that worries me, it's the games.

 

Between my Apple II, Vectrex, O2, 7800, Adam (Colecovision) and now my Vic-20, it adds up.

 

Not to mention the Arcade MAME machine downstairs.

 

(And I don't even want to consider that the 7800 plays 2600 games!!)

 

Much more, and I'm going to have to start looking for meetings..

 

12 step or something..

(Today, we start by just not playing the O2 for a week and see how that goes...)

I don't know if I'm ready to "bow down", but I have to take back some of my 80's thoughts about the NES. It's got some fun games!!

 

OK, I've only really played SMB, Castelvaina, and Contra.. But it's got me looking for more...

they have a lot of RPG's if you are into that kind of thing. As for what I said before, I grew up on NES so whatever I might say is probly going to be biased

My last NES ran me $10, and it came with two controllers, a zapper, a power pad, and Rad Racer 2. A winner is me. I love Goodwill.

NES games are cheap. Usually not more that $3 each at goodwills. I got one of mine at a Goodwill (console, 2 controllers, Light gun, all the hook ups, 1 game) for $7.99.

 

My favorites?

1. Excite Bike. You must get this game!

2. Super Spike V'Ball.

 

You will play these over and over and over and...(trails off repeating)

 

Reagardless you buy a system or not, begin bowing anyway.

I was an anti-NES snob back in junior high... mainly because all of my friends got them but my parents got me a TANDY COMPUTER instead, so I was stuck with my Atari 2600 and a bunch of 3-color early PC shareware.

 

I finally got an NES a few months ago and I spend more time playing it than any other consoles I own. My favorites in my meager collection are SMB and SMB2, Super Sprint and Pinbot.

No.

 

Only the first one had the 3D mode.

In some ways I was an anti-nes snob as well. I personally think handhelds like gp32 and palm really add alot of personality to the games.

 

As for collecting... I do it, and it's fun, but those things are a pain in the neck to keep clean, even with a top loader.

 

Making me prefer emulation even more.
