CincYnoTi #5 Posted November 18, 2003 wow, that's a great find. i wonder if it is PAL or NTSC format. doesn't this thing have a built-in ROM that displays a menu (hence PAL/NTSC format possibilities) or is the device just a pass-through device like the video game brain game selector? povlok1 #6 Posted November 18, 2003 yup, built in display menu.. I have one mint and I even got it off of ebay for $65 bucks;) you talk about one slipping thru..
povlok1 #7 Posted November 18, 2003 and Im real curious to weather its ntsc or pal.. or neither! you hook a reg atari up at the bottom.. so I think the devise may be just a 'pass thru' for the carts.. except for the built in menu?? hmmm

+RangerG #9 Posted November 18, 2003 Could anyone post a picture or a link with a complete picture of this. I searched around, but I couldn't really find a nice picture to see the whole machine. How big is it?
ren.dhark #10 Posted November 18, 2003 Thanks for the nice posts. Could anyone post a picture or a link with a complete picture of this. I will post some pics after I received it (maybe in 3-4 days). And I´ll try to check if its PAL or NTSC.

How big is it? Here are some pics I pulled off an old auction listing. I don't own this, but I wish I did.

Marco #14 Posted November 18, 2003 Damn, if only I had spotted that! I love those! I wonder how this one ended up in Germany and if it's PAL or NTSC. If it's PAL, I gotta go find one of those as well Great acquisition Günther!! Cheers, Marco
ren.dhark #15 Posted November 18, 2003 Thanks Marco! Damn, if only I had spotted that! hehe... then I didn´t win the auction. Thanks again
ATARIPITBULL #16 Posted November 19, 2003 I have seen one of those on ebay before, but I never got a chance to bid on it. with the way prices are going through the roof on ebay, I bet if another mint shape unit went up for sale it would hit over $400.00. Dolt #17 Posted November 19, 2003 Does anyone have a photo of one all set up with a 2600 in it, etc.? I always see these ones looking forlorn and empty in photos from the auction block. If someone has one with a bunch of Imagic games jammed in it and a TV percolating next to it, let us see what it looks like when it's happily up and runnng! Marco #18 Posted November 19, 2003 Mine are all locked away in storage at the moment. I hope to give them a nice place in my new house. But building the new game room could take much longer than I had hoped, so I don't think I'll be able to make a nice Imagic Previewer Set-up any time soon... povlok1 #19 Posted November 19, 2003 I have seen one of those on ebay before, but I never got a chance to bid on it. with the way prices are going through the roof on ebay, I bet if another mint shape unit went up for sale it would hit over $400.00. The last auction that I saw on ebay was for the unit pictured above, and it went for 445.. Mine is real clean,, I dont think I'd ever sell it for I know I wouldnt even take 600 for mine.. as far as the pal/ntsc thing.. the only 'part' of the system that would be either pal or ntsc would be the initial start up menu.. all the rest is just pass-tru for the carts.. its the atari unit you install at the bottom that does the broadcasting.. so.. if ther is a differnece in em, that would prob be the ONLY difference as far as design,, the on-board rom for the menu.. compair to a router,, it dosnt matter if its talking to mac, windows, unix, etc,, it just passes thru.. CincYnoTi #20 Posted November 19, 2003 the rom that does the startup screen was what i was asking about pal vs ntsc. there is actually a binary for the imagic selector over on atariguide. i thought this startup screen/rom controlled which game you played. or is it just a startup screen and nothing else? does the startup screen echo what buttons you are pushing to select one of the 24 slots or does the startup screen never change? so how does it work? you push button A to select 1-2-3 (slot column) and button B to select 1-8 (slot row), then button C is like a power on/off, which switches from the startup screen ROM to whatever game in the slot you have selected? CincYnoTi #21 Posted November 19, 2003 step 5 on the selector says "when preview ends..." so did the game you were playing automatically stop after some time period and you are automatically returned to the preview screen? i can see this kind of setup in a store, since you wouldn't want somebody to play an hour uninterrupted of demon attack. come on kid, preview a couple games and go beg mom to buy it!!! povlok1 #22 Posted November 19, 2003 so how does it work? you push button A to select 1-2-3 (slot column) and button B to select 1-8 (slot row), then button C is like a power on/off, which switches from the startup screen ROM to whatever game in the slot you have selected? Exactly correct;) the game display is basically just that.. instead of static when ther is no cart loaded, you get the imagic screen.. wouldnt it be interesting if it has a Brazilian style Pal:) or some other 'all format' chip??
