godsey1 #1 Posted November 18, 2003 Hi all. I found a Activision Fisking Derby with a peice of sponge that fits in the end of it. It fits perfect, looks factory made. I don't know if this link will work for anyone else or not, but here it is: http://i22.ebayimg.com/01/i/00/ed/d6/2f_0.JPG , http://i15.ebayimg.com/01/i/00/ed/d2/6c_0.JPG , http://i6.ebayimg.com/02/i/00/ed/e7/77_0.JPG . What do you all think? Tony
rolenta #2 Posted November 18, 2003 The original Activision carts had these sponges. Eventually Activision figured out that they were unneccesary and stopped including them. The sponges that were in my carts decayed long ago.
godsey1 #3 Posted November 18, 2003 Thanks alot for the info . I'll try to keep this one safe and sound. Tony
Bivotar #4 Posted November 18, 2003 The early Activision cartridges were shipped with the foam inserts. I guess the intent was to provide protection for the exposed connector. Atari cart cases had the sliding door that protected the connector, Activision does not, so they tried to compensate by putting the foam in there. I picked up an Activision Boxing cart that has the foam. Activision obviously stopped doing this pretty early on.
cvga #5 Posted November 18, 2003 I have a couple of these. I found one in a fishing derby cart (that I've had as a double for a long time) just last weekend. Cool stuff!

Adrian M #8 Posted November 18, 2003 Wow, I never knew that? Same here. It's been ages since I last opened a new Activision cart. Must have thrown all my sponge pieces away back in the 1980's when I got a new cart!
sku_u #9 Posted November 18, 2003 I have a couple of Activision carts that still have the foam inserts intact. They're not that hard to come by.
CPUWIZ #10 Posted November 18, 2003 I didn't know that either, well until March anyway. http://www.atariage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=22237

godsey1 #13 Posted November 20, 2003 How about a joystick like this one: http://i3.ebayimg.com/02/i/00/ef/b2/75_0.JPG http://i9.ebayimg.com/02/i/00/ef/4e/d4_0.JPG http://i1.ebayimg.com/01/i/00/f1/15/ee_0.JPG I don't know if this one is home made or factory. It looks factory, but I don't know . Has anyone seen one before? Tony Here is the full E-Bay page http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...3567418960&rd=1 . It might work, I had to list it in a pending auction, as I don't have any web space to store my pictures yet.
Osmeroid #14 Posted November 20, 2003 Now I really do feel stupid - I got a copy of Checkers with the sponge and threw it away I guess it's true what they say.... Stupidity doesn't run in my family, it sprints!

Kenwood #16 Posted July 20, 2004 I just bought an Activision Checkers with the sponge still in it.
AtariLeaf #17 Posted July 20, 2004 I wondered why none of the links posted in this thread worked. Then I checked the date, this post dates back quite a few months.
Kenwood #18 Posted July 20, 2004 Sorry about that... Anyway, here's a pix of the foam
Robert M #19 Posted July 20, 2004 That's a copryrightective sponge. It was designed to prevent unwanted copying of cartridge software. Activision abandoned it after a study showed it was only 80% effective at preventing unwanted reproductions.
