Jet Grind Radio vs Jet Set Future

Recommended Posts

I bought Jet Set Future for my new Xbox--actually it's the first game on that system I've put any time in at all since Halo, which I played last month.

The one thing that stands out is that the new game lacks the old's crushing difficulty, at least so far. I think they've done a good job of thinking about what's fun, and trying not to turn the player into a crying heap.

For giggles I put in the DC original...I think I do like the old art style a bit better, the newer game is more subtle and realistic (in particular, the old characters were shorter and more 'funky' looking) On the other hand, after playing the new game for a while, the old one seem SLOOOOOOOW. I wasn't expecting that, but the framerate sees sluggish, and the movement...well, it might be more realistic, come to think about it, but the new one has a great kinetic feel.

Jet Grind Radio (and why does it have 3 variations on its name? Jet Set Radio, Jet Grind Radio, De La Jet Set Radio..) introduced Cel-shading, didn't it?

Anyway, $8 for Jet Set Future (w/ a realistic auto racer thrown in on the same disk) is a GREAT deal from EB. (I looked and saw I had paid $35 for the original Jet Grind Radio used).

I never played Jet Grind Future but Jet Gring Radio is one of the best games on the DC. Is the GBA version any good?

I think JSRF is one of the best games available for the XBox. Sega did tone down the difficulty quite abit as it only take one pull of the trigger to tag something. I actually like this as I can concentrate more on exploring the enviroments and getting to new places rather than my quick timing on tagging something. Course it could just be how bad I suck at the DC version making me say this.

I got this game free with one of my Xboxes and I would have paid for it if it didn't come free.

Unfortunately, I never had a chance to play the orginal on the DC. I did pick this up for the Xbox, however. I got the combo disc w/ Sega GT, for 5.99$ at Gamestop (and now it looks like it lists for 3.99$! http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?produc...uct%5Fid=950211 )

But I thought this was a very fun sort of game. Thought I would "try" it, and a few hours later wondered what had happened to the time. The whole disc seems a heckuva lot more fun factor than this years Clone Wars/Tetris game (which is ok... but "trying" those was just that... played each for a few minutes and then went back to Mechassault)

Taking out the "motion tags" is, in my opinion, one of the least significant ways that the game is easier...and yeah, it is so you can do more 'big tags' while on the run. But over all, the game has a lot fewer places that you just have to do over and over 'til you want to scream. (that 5th avenue like night district of the original (where the big helicopters come out) comes to mind, thats where I had to give the original up, as does this one where you're having to chase 3 of those shark guys around the sewer, but there so fast you have to be super good with the shortcut tricks.)

Though right now on the Xbox version I'm stuck trying to get back to the garage after finishing up the pharoah/skyscraper graffiti. It's really annoying, that level's layout.

Ooooh, all this talk about JSRF makes me want to play it again - must be the coolest video game ever (and the best soundtrack).

I nearly finished it but it started to get really hard. I didn't like the level on top of the skyscrapers with the big satalite dishes, that kind of got annoying after a while. But the thing with this game is that you keep finding new places to get to.

Can someone explain to me what a JET RATING means and how you get one?

I too have both. I got my JSRF with my Xbox.

I like the JGR style better too. And I just don't find the future look in the other one as good as the original.

Though, I can't play these games. I can't get past the training.

Well a Jet rating is in I believe Jet Grind City (or something like that) after you beat the DC game. There are built in high scores you have to beat for certain activities and once you do that it will unlock secret characters.

The Jet rating's on JSRF are the same. You have to beat the game, then when you go into the save menu you will see the "thumb's up" symbol is now accessible. You have to play each of those areas and get a score higher than the highest score, not just 1 point higher but a certain amount higher. Once you get Jet's in all of a certain area a new character is unlocked. I don't feel I've beat a game of JSRF until I've unlocked all the characters :)

I've never done it on JGR because it is too dang hard, but it's cake now on JSRF.

Potts the Dog is fun to play with he yips while doing tricks

For example to get the highest score in an area you have to find a spot that gives you 500 points for a trick and just keep going over and over that spot until you build up your score... similar to how you unlock some of the graffiti souls.

Finished it tonight though. Great game. Some parts a little too frustrating, but great.

Hahaha

what i meant to say in my sleepy haze is, it is very hard to compare them as they are both A1 releases. The differences are subtle and i would recomend both for anyone
