Leaning toward a modded XBOX, need advise

Recommended Posts

I recently discovered xboxes can be modded and many games be installed in the hard drive.

sort of like this here. but don't think i'll get one off ebay.

What i'd like to know is, are setups like these worth the money honestly? Will they last for years and are they reliable?

What are your guys opinions? Thanks.

I looked over that website. Do you think someone that doesn't have much computer experience do this?

You don't need much experience to mod your xbox. Now with all these easy to install no-solder chips it's even easier. I'd still recommend you solder it in though. Do it yourself that way if problems occur later on you'll know the step-by-step process that got you where you are so fixing it is easy. If it's your first time modding an xbox get the slayers installer and it'll make your life easier.

As for finding disc images why would you want those? The big HD is perfect for holding all your emulators and you never need to open the DVD tray for anything ;) . If you can use IRC getting the emulators is no problem. mIRC>EFNet>#xbins

Yeah you could burn it to a CD but not all Xbox's read CD's well so your better off using a DVD+R, that makes alot of wasted space as no emu takes up +4GB. Maybe if you did a MAME one it would be feasible as some of those game take alot of space and there are so darn many games. In short it's just more practical to throw them on your HD and play em from there.

Nope all can be modified. Newer chips coming out right now make it possible to do any. For right now though, a new video encoder is being used somewhere starting with June production. So until there is a fix for the problems you encounter trying to run Linux, older is what ya need. The Samsung drive is preferred so that's why issues are made about the DVD Rom :)
