RCmodeler #1 Posted December 2, 2003 (see subject) For me it was H.E.R.O. I didn't even know it existed! I was a huge fan of Atari, Commodore, and Activision. How on earth did I miss this cool game??? I finally discovered it in 2002... 18 years after release! The other is Final Fantasy. I'd nevr heard of this game until I saw the FF10 commercial. It was the sexy girl that caught my eye.
NE146 #2 Posted December 2, 2003 Pitfall 2.. I was never too impressed with Pitfall (the game, not the graphics which of course impressed me). It just seemed a lot of walking and no action to me at the time, so I passed on Pitfall 2. Bad idea, Pitfall 2 was far and away a better game. I'm sure I would've been blown away had I tried it back in the day
Raijin Z #3 Posted December 2, 2003 Shit, almost every NES game ever made. SUCKS GROWING UP POOR, IN CHILDREN SERVICES' "CARE".
Adrian M #4 Posted December 2, 2003 For me it would have to be... DARK CHAMBERS for the 2600. It featured all the classic gameplay of the 2600 version of Berzerk, but with adventure elements and a long quest! Sadly, I passed this great game up during my NES phase, only to rediscover it a year ago.
Ze_ro #5 Posted December 2, 2003 Hmm... lets see... Berzerk and Wizard of Wor come to mind. A lot of the early arcade games were just slightly before my time (I was born in 1980), so I only really got a chance to play them when I found MAME. --Zero
SS #6 Posted December 2, 2003 I used to play HERO all the time on my 800XL back in the day. I never knew that it had been released for the 2600 too. What a pleasant surprise back in '97 or '98 when I stumbles across one!
bergbros2 #7 Posted December 2, 2003 Would you believe Super Mario 3? I never played it until the GBA Super Mario Advance 4 came out. It is one of those things that I'm glad being late than never. Same thing with Zelda, Link to the Past.
tyranthraxus #8 Posted December 2, 2003 Wizard of Wor, just got it for the 5200 never played it before. I discovered the excellent CRPG Wasteland on a Computer Gaming World CD-Rom in the late 90s. I had wanted that game badly for my 64 but just never got it.
Bivotar #9 Posted December 2, 2003 For me it would probably be Beamrider. I love that game. Never played it or even recall hearing about it back in the day. Also I would have to say discovering the Intellivision was a lot of fun. I grew up with the 2600 and moved on to Colecovision and C64. Pretty much skipped the whole Intellivision era, except a few times at friends houses. I really enjoyed discovering the many unique and fun games on the Intellivision. joeybastard #10 Posted December 2, 2003 Space Dungeon on the 5200. I only knew one kid growing up who had a 5200 and he didn't have Space Dungeon. When I got mine from an auction that was one of the 36 carts I got with it. I love that game but unfortunately my cart of it died recently.
Room 34 #11 Posted December 2, 2003 Circus Atari and Stampede... 20+ years later! Both games looked boring to me as a kid so I was never interested in them. Got 'em both last year and they're now among my favorites! Also, anything NES. I played my friends' NES games as a kid but didn't have my own until this year. DracIsBack #12 Posted December 2, 2003 NES - THE LEGEND OF ZELDA. It was one of the few NES classics I hadn't played before.
Famicoman #13 Posted December 2, 2003 That game Yoshi, or Yosi Land for the NES, just saw it at EB yesterday.
candiru #14 Posted December 2, 2003 Indy 500 and Warlords come most noteably to mind. I love simultaneous play on the 2600. We only had about a dozen cartridges for our 2600 back in the day, and I never had a chance to become familiar with a vast majority of the games available. That's what makes this hobby so fun for me, almost every new acquisition is a surprise.
Xot #15 Posted December 3, 2003 Rally-X. I'd never even heard of it before Namco Museum... and I can't believe I missed out on this great game.
Big Player #16 Posted December 3, 2003 I add Beamrider as well. I knew of the Intellivision version since it came out but I had no idea until a year or two that they made a 2600 version. It's a great game too.
Video #17 Posted December 3, 2003 I don't know when it come out on Atari, but Gravitar was the one for me. I was sick of all the side scrolling space shooters at the time. And I was like "wow, defender with gravity" so I passed it up. Wasn't untill 98 that I finely got a cheap copy of the game and played it. It's gone to one of my more favorite games on the system. Jasoco #18 Posted December 3, 2003 Sonic 1, 2 and 3. Being a Nintendo fanboy caused me to miss a lot of good games.
+davidcalgary29 #19 Posted December 3, 2003 I didn't discover the joys of "Mr. Do!" for the A8 until 2002. I had shied away from the game for years, thinking that the inferior "Mr. Do!'s Castle" was representative of the entire Do! family.
cimerians #20 Posted December 4, 2003 -- many many arcade games thanks to MAME and the loads of roms that were available years ago, Guzzler comes to mind. -- Final Fantasy (original NES) -- Legend of Zelda (original NES) Yes, I never owned or played through the original NES Zelda until I finally got the collectors CD (that comes with the GC) a few weeks ago. Shannon #22 Posted December 14, 2003 Pitfall 2.. I was never too impressed with Pitfall (the game, not the graphics which of course impressed me). Shannon #23 Posted December 14, 2003 2600 ms. pac-man, jr. pac-man, klax, centipede, millipede, and several later activision titles including pressure cooker and crackpot. I'm sure there are more. When these came out I had long moved onto the 8-bit atari computers
VidGameKing #24 Posted December 15, 2003 pretty much every game and most systems. You see I was never privilaged enough to have a gamming system growing up. I had a old PC 8088 I think, and a Apple IIgs, and a MAC and a MAC Classic. it was quite some time before I left MAC computers as my main computer.
