Tyrant #1 Posted December 2, 2003 At JFMicro Stone said something I dont entirely believe... that the JagVR kits just do head tracking, and that the screen is (and apears to be) flat. Since Virtuality arcade kits have proper stereo seperation (ie objects in the distance are drawn closer together on the two screens than objects closer to you, to make your eyes think they really are further away) it seems unlikely that the JagVR would be flat and have no depth to it. Can anyone (ie JaySmith ) confirm if this is actually true please, as Im having a hard time accepting it, after all even the vectrex has stereo seperation on some games, and back in the 50's ppl were watching movies through red/green glasses . Stone #2 Posted December 2, 2003 Help, help I'm being misquoted. I just said (afaik) there was one LCD screen in the headsets. You invented all the rest of that for yourself Stone
Stone #3 Posted December 2, 2003 Ah, a source found. Go here and do a browser-search for 'Takara Dynovisor'. As the Dynovisor/Scuba to all intents and purposes is the JagVR I thought it a safe assumption that nothing changed. Especially given the low intended price-point of the JagVR. Incidentally, you could do with learning how to spell 'stereo' Stone
Tyrant #4 Posted December 2, 2003 No no no, I was very specific in my questions after that, there are many ways to use one screen and get two displays from it, and my original question was how do the VR kits get two displays out of one object processor/video system in the Jag, to which your reply was that it dosnt and that it is just a flat screen with motion tracking. Gunstar #6 Posted December 2, 2003 I have an article, from one of the gameing expos, I believe E3 in '95, where Virtuality representatives stated that it does use a single LCD screen, BUT, the JagVR ALSO has/had two image projectors, probably on either side of the screen, that projected stereo scopic images directly into the pupils. the screen was mainly for background. Unfortunately, all my clippings are in the hands of Clint at the moment, so I can't quote from the article and give better/more details on the subject. if the Dyno visor or Scuba are designed from the JagVR headset, then these stereo scopic projectors were removed from their design, just like the head tracking, that is what I have always assumed. The Jag VR would have been a revolutionary headset beyond the 2 stereo LCD screens of the past. Jaysmith may be one to ask since he has the working headsets, but as far as I know, the Missle Command VR he has is the only known game to work with the headset and it may or may not have used the projectors if the headset has them. I'm sure all software had to be specifically programmed to use the projectors, otherwise the image would not be true stereo 3D and only flat on the screen, with or without headtracking depending also on programming. Clint Thompson #7 Posted December 2, 2003 Shoot! Sorry man... I continue to keep forgetting about that Ah, did I tell you that my Scanner burned out?(literally)? Back after my last move I hooked it back up and all it did was started to smoke (what a motha! argh!!!) so, I'm throwing the flatbed out the window. jaysmith2000 #8 Posted December 2, 2003 Hey all, It's difficult to judge with only MC3D, however there is depth to the VR unit, no question. I always am having so much fun playing it I'm never really paying attention, but I will next time and give a more complete "report". Jason
Tyrant #9 Posted December 2, 2003 Thanks Next question... how does it interface Not that Im thinking of writing anything that uses it but I'd like to know how it works anyway hehe. I think I saw a while ago that you were testing how the head tracking part interfaces, and that it does not follow the spec, correct? What about the graphics input? do you know? Yeah, Matthias was helping me with a modified program of his joypad tester. We weren't having much luck. I haven't worked with it in a while, but have been planning on using it for another "project" I'm working on. I'm not sure what the graphics input is for it.
