Find anything new or unsual in BIWN?

Recommended Posts

Yes I did. When you go into the "net" I guess it is?...where you go through a bunch of triangles..Anyway I found a conversation that had a ton of cuss words and I was amazed. I thought no way this could be in the finished game, I thought it was the programmers of the game talking to each other or something. Anyone else come accross this?

Cool stuff Kevin, never found that. I did recently find some "source" code for BIWN. I wish I had all of it....Would be a fun project to try and complete.

Well, I finally got my copy of BI/WN, yet unfortunately I do not, as of yet, have a bypass solution, so I was going to check out the manual, but it seems to be a broken link. Double bummer. I'm really waiting for either Painter:SE(or whatever) with it's bypass, or maybe somebody will release a burnable cd bios that I can burn and boot up on my Jag.

Speaking of the manual, do any of you guys happen to know where I can find a backup copy of it? Or perhaps, could you send it to me in a PM, if you made a copy? I'd appreciate it.

Hey!

I found some of this stuff and was copying it into a notebook along with a near complete map of the city. It was amazing how many pages of in-game text I'd copied over to put in a thread here. 8)

I seemed to have misplaced my notebook for a while now. I had gotten irritated with the game crashing in a particular area while mapping it out, so I gave up briefly. Now, I can't find it.

Guess I'll have to start over sometime.

I've found a couple of interesting things while wandering around in the game...

I found a gang hideout in the southern part of the city that as soon as you enter they begin firing on you. Can't kill you though.

The collest part is the "Character Elevator" which is mentioned in the manual. I was able to make about $20,000 by screwing around with it, after which I could go out and buy some nice guns. It's too bad that they didn't have all the guns implemented though.

I did manage to play through a few bits of the broken story line...getting the mission to find that guy who was lost in C-Space and finding him. Must have been an early mission in the game.

I also wrote down the coordinates of some of the coller things I've ran into. I'll have to look for it though. I can't recall if I found that text with all the cuss words, but I have found a few things like it. ;)

It's too bad that the developers of Varunas Forces didn't get as far as Atari did with BIWN. Anyone else here have the demo? The level has practically nothing in it on the VF demo.

Wow, I didn't know all that stuff was in there. I'll have to break this game out again and take an even closer look at the areas I didn't explore in detail before. No telling what else might be hidden in that city. :)

You guys make the game sound really interesting. I hope the new version isn't to far from being released as I'd really like to try it out.

Well....the game is a little interesting...but it gets old kinda quick with no music. Nontheless, I can see this game being ground breaking for it's time and I sure with the added story, music, sfx and graphics it would have been a blast to play.

I have the VF demo. It is pretty disappointing as far as how much was complete on the game. However, it certainly was developing into a great game!

I noticed someone asked about the new version. Clint and I have talked about it and we're cool with releasing it to everyone. We're both pretty swamped right now, but I'm going to try and get a stack burned. Don't expect anything fancy on this, it will just be a CDR. If you want a label and nice case, you'll have to make those yourself.

More info will follow. It's great to hear these new discoveries. The "gang" shooting scene is one I've never found. Would be cool if y'all could post coordinates of those items that aren't in the manual.

I had sent an email to Ambient Distortions some time ago, and was told I was on the list for receiving BI:WN.

However, I never did hear anything back, and when I emailed them a couple weeks ago, I've received no reply.

Seems like I read here, somewhere, that no more copies are going to be made, which really bums me out.

So, hearing this latest news of a possible CDR version... at least it gives me some renewed hope. Please put me on the list, ahem, again. :D

I'll treat it well, I promise! Good home, plenty of attention, three meals a day, etc.

Is this all building up to a full, complete version, or will it only ever be demos and such?

Thanks,

Randy

I've got no problem with that at all. :D

The CDR -all by itself- is going to make an excellent and valuable addition to the collection! Man, I can't wait 'til this baby is mine. Rev18 was a lot of fun to explore and discover, now Rev23 is going to be the same thing all over again! I have no idea how different the two are so no matter how big or how small the noticeable differences are, any little thing could have been added or removed and that's where the fun lies, discovering where they were headed.

I'm excited! :D

@Atari Smeghead- To my understanding, Rev23 was as far as they got. :)

I found loads of cool stuff...but it was all in rev19, and when I checked it out in rev18 none of it was there

Good fun wandering about though.

Everyone seems most excited by the prostitute, but trust me she ain't worth the wait. heh... There are some other things in Rev 23 though that make it cool..... I'm sure there's plenty I haven't discovered....

LOL!

That reminds me of trying so hard to complete the bonus levels in the pc version of GTA2 to get the best pic possible of the "Hot Pink Hooker" standing next to the phone.

After I'd finally blown up enough ice cream vans, the final (and best) shot wasn't so hot. :woozy:

Funny that you mention that as yesterday I decided to finish playing Aircars all the way through to see what the ending was like. Of course the ending was disappointing(but I wasn't expecting anything cool anyways considering the 'quality' of the game itself) but I was rather surprised to find that the ending screen consists of your Rambo-type character overlooking a flaming valley on Mars with a bikini-clad babe behind him. I have no idea if you saved her or if she was tagging along with you the whole time  (I know they probably just put her in there for sex appeal). I hate how they put "The End?" in there however, implying that they may have had plans for an Aircars 2...

I also found my page with notes of some locations in BIWN. The building that has two gang members who fire at you endlessly is 694:559. I'm guessing that this may be the hideout for the Dragon's Claw Gang listed as unknown coordinates in the manual. There are some other rooms in the building, but nothing else is there other than some interesting textures. I also have some coordinates to a few other places if anyone is interested.

288:494 = Autodoc(just a room)

178:138 = Bianco's Cube (listed as unknown in the manual)

Two other Neural Shack Computing Centers= 264:597 and 244:611

424:403 = another police station.

I also marked down a couple of coordinates without an explanation and I can't remember where they go to, so check them out for yourself = 260:291, 605:434, 260:339.

I know that I found more than this but I forgot to write down the coordinates. I'll have to go back an explore some more again. I remember finding a bar that has the guy with the cowboy hat who's a fellow hacker or something and it has four other guys in a white coat standing around but they don't do anything. You also can talk to the bartender and order a drink. I wish I remember the coordinates for that place. Other than that I'd found several places that were quite large with many rooms but no people in them. I wonder if Rev. 23 has any other real differences (beyond the hooker) at least in the storyline.

I agree with you that it was developing into a great game, they obviously put a lot of time into the FMV's. I like watching the crew bios videos, they are quite interesting and at time funny. I just wonder why they went to all the trouble of making the videos and put so little into the actual game...unless there is a more complete version of the game floating around somewhere. I also have that 'lost' footage from Commander Blood. That looked to be one of the weirdest games someone ever thought up. I wouldn't mind seeing more unreleased games coming out though, it's cool to see how far they got at least. Someone needs to find the prototype for Conan, that was one I really wanted to have. oh and Jaysmith, any update on Robinson's Requiem?

Hey,

I powered up this game for ARETHIUS' thread and decided to try out some of these coordinates. I had no idea those gang members existed. That's cool how they blast away at your character like that. Looks like their bullets have an (albeit small) effect when they hit you. Too bad you can't return fire and splatter 'em all over those stucco(?) walls. LOL!

I also marked down a couple of coordinates without an explanation and I can't remember where they go to, so check them out for yourself = 260:291, 605:434, 260:339.

That 260:291 took me to the door of a room with sky blue paint on the walls mixed with what appears to be pyramids or sand dunes. Otherwise, the room is empty and has no other doors.

605:434 led me to an office(?) of some sort with grey walls and carpet. A succession of empty rooms with only a single door on the opposite side with two elevator doors (one on each side) about ¾ of the way through. I couldn't operate the elevators but they were a harsh color of red inside. The final door led out to another street.

260:339 left me out in BFE.

Down the street though, there was another "sand dune" room exactly like before.

I'm going to try and find that bar with the cowboy hat dude. 8)

This game sounds really interesting.  Pardon my ignorace, but what game is it?

Hi!

It's an alpha version of Black Ice/White Noise. Rev18 to be exact. Jaysmith2000 and Clint Thompson were able to make this demo version available for a miniscule amount of money earlier this year. It was pretty early in developement when abandoned but I think it's a wealth of entertainment. Not much more to do than wander aimlessly through the streets hoping to find some shred of undiscovered coolness that nobody's seen yet. 8)

I wish I could locate my notes to compare with the others.

BTW, Rev23 (the last known rev) might be available soon so keep an eye out for updates. This one's going to ROCK :D

Hey Saturn,

I can't take any credit for Rev 18, but thanks anyways. That was ALL Clint. I am however the one that bought Rev 23 (actually Rev's 1-23) and plan on getting it out there to everyone with Clint's blessing. Clint (Ambient Distortions) owns the rights to BIWN.

Just some clarification.

Oops, thanks for the heads up. :)

Sorry about the mix up Clint! I thought it was a shared effort. Thank you for making Rev18 available to us! 8)

Nope, but I did cheer him on! heh! We are working on some other projects to release through Ambient Distortions so stay tuned. Unfortunately there just isn't enough time in the day...

Yeah, it's cool to see the gang member hideout. There is another one that I found, that even has a boss guy there, but I didn't write down the coordinates. I've been playing Towers 2 lately, but I think I'm going to go fire up BIWN again ;) BTW- You can kill those gang members. I'd suggest going to the character elevator first and "save" that guys wife(who is in the same building, just down the hall) to earn about $24k, then you can go buy some heavier guns :D

Ah, now I remember those places. I thought that they weren't anywhere really important as I didn't mark what they went to. I found several small rooms which didn't seem very important but had they finished the game I'm sure that they would have been stores or something of that nature.

I wish I could remember where the bar is, I'm going to go looking for it as well. If you find it LMK where it's at. :P

Here's looking forward to Rev. 23 and that it will have a little more content to shed some light on the story.
