Tempest #1 Posted December 6, 2003 Can anyone out there with a TT030 tell me your experiences with ST game compatibility? I'm not talking about STE or Falcon games, I mean regular old ST games (for the 520ST and 1040ST). I still haven't been able to get a sold answer on the TT030's compatibility problems. I'm not talking about STE or Falcon games, I mean regular old ST games (for the 520ST and 1040ST). I still haven't been able to get a sold answer on the TT030's compatibility problems. There are games which does not work for me. But there are games which works better or smoother (Knight of the sky, Frontier). TT is diffent from ST line. For example TT has CPU with cache which makes lot of games unhappy. TT has no blitter, has another graphics chip... Sometimes TTs TOS is reason why games doesn't work. Even on my ST with TOS 2.06 lot of games doesn't work.
tjlazah #3 Posted December 13, 2003 I recently had my TT hooked up and found about half the games do not work. One way I was able to get some games to work was to boot while holding ALT to boot to disk. Then I would turn off Cache from the menu. On games that booted directly from the boot block that cannot be done and will most likely fail. I also had success getting cracked File versioned games to work. Single file versions of games. I copied them to the HD and ran them from there. I mostly had to set video to ST Low and turn off Caches. If that didn't work I copied to Disk and booted to the disk and ran them from there. Some games do not like the GEM loaded and must be run from disk by holding ALT on bootup. It is not recommended to use the TT to play games, but if you are limited on space and have it set up, it is nice to know that some games will work! Tempest #4 Posted December 13, 2003 Yeah but I bet a Falcon is worse on the compatibilty front. Maybe a Mega STE is right for me... Tempest
twbrown #5 Posted December 14, 2003 well you can allways get a Mega STE and add an accellarator to it..that way you can toggle the 030 back to slower speed for incompatable games Best has the PAK 68 for $289.00 (us) but requires some soldering which means if i get one later myself i would have to send the Mega in to have it installed but at least there is an option to pep up the speed a bit Thomas
belboz #6 Posted December 14, 2003 I haven't had good luck with the TT and bootsector or AUTO folder booting games. Some work, but many do not. If you run the 24bit compatibility program with the TT it will help with those games that don't run but can be launched from the desktop. You can even sometimes get away with running the 24bit program and then putting in your AUTO folder booting game disk and manually launching the program from the auto folder. Doesn't always work. I get the same problem with the Falcon when it comes to those 720k disks... the Falcon tends to not like them.... I've yet to get the AD&D games I have for the ST to work on my Falcon but I haven't tried the backward program yet. Does backward work on the TT? (alternatley you could sell your TT to me and I could find out for you
belboz #8 Posted December 15, 2003 I don't believe backwards works with the TT. 24bit is the only program I am aware of for helping compatibility. I'm thinking about making a little program that waits for a keystroke and loads the boot sector code and runs it. Then basically boot 24bit and run my program. Pop the boot sector disk game in and hit a key. As for selling the TT..... Never! Although if you want to sell me your Falcon, I would entertain that! Clint Thompson #9 Posted December 15, 2003 Heheh... Ah... 24bit... had no knowledge of it since I don't have a TT (yet) Hopefully soon enough, maybe after the holidays and madness are over with and I have the known cash to get one The Falcon... I love this machine I just added a 1GB External APS JAZ to it
Tempest #10 Posted December 15, 2003 Which are rarer, TT's or Falcon's? I had no trouble gettin a TT, but getting a Falcon has proven quite difficult. Tempest
Clint Thompson #11 Posted December 15, 2003 I would say both are pretty hard to get. I've never been able to run over a TT in the last couple of years tho I've owned several Falcons... (You got a spare TT?) (tho there's one I may be currently getting , in the works, just waiting) There's another Falcon on eBay right now...hovering around $202 I believe... Tempest #12 Posted December 15, 2003 Yeah I guess I got lucky. I got my TT with a bunch of extras (including a huge 21" B&W high res monitor) for around $200, and then I was able to find a PTC1426 monitor for $40. Now if only I could get that damn hard drive formated... Tempest
+Sauron #13 Posted December 15, 2003 I would guess that Falcons are much more rare than TT030s, just due to how long each of them were on the market. Plus, didn't Atari have some OEM deals with the TT with several companies? They've always seemed more plentiful than Falcons.
Tempest #14 Posted December 16, 2003 Ok I think I've just found out more than I ever wanted to know about STE/TT/Falcon compatibility: http://www.uni-mainz.de/~heuno000/projects...ari/ste_faq.zip Tempest
