candiru #1 Posted December 11, 2003 Picked this up thrifting today, is it anything special? I couldn't really find any info on it other than seeing it mentioned a few times. I don't really have any use for it but I couldn't resist getting it with it having the old CX-40 pictured on the back.
Ze_ro #2 Posted December 11, 2003 Wow, I had no idea this thing existed... I don't know how useful it is though, since Dungeon Master is best played with a mouse, and it fully supports Sound Blasters... --Zero
Raijin Z #3 Posted December 11, 2003 Damn, I think I have the same system it's hooked up to. Too bad the bastard won't boot. No hard drive, and I don't have any GIMP MODE 5" floppies to boot from. All of my 5" diskettes are 1.2MB. Too big, incompatible.
Nintendo Penguin #4 Posted December 11, 2003 I used to play that game all the time on the IIgs.... unless I am remembering incorrectly, I am certain it is best played with a mouse. Anyway... that is a sweet find.
candiru #5 Posted December 11, 2003 Anybody have any idea if it would work with programs besides Dungeon Master? Right now I have a Mac but have been thinking about also getting an older Windows box like a PII to putz around with. I'd probably just want to have it set up with emulaters and a few older games I like that were never ported for Macintosh.
Ze_ro #6 Posted December 11, 2003 Given that it plugs into a parallel port, I would assume that games would have to be written explicitly to use it. FTL's other titles (although aside from Dungeon Master, I can't think of anything else that they did) might support it. --Zero
Chuck Gill #7 Posted December 13, 2003 It came with Dungeon Master for the IBM PC. When the game came out for the PC, mice, sound cards and joystick adapters were still uncommon. Everybody had a 2600 joystick laying around! It was a great idea at the time. I played it on the ST when it was new, and it is still an all time favorite. You guys are right, a mouse is really the only way to play it. Chuck
