VCSVideo(TM) pioneering video

It could handle night vision just fine . . . In approximately eight shades of green or red or the color of your choosing . . .

Why can't we replace the current 128-bit crap? I'll be willing to bet the classic compilations out there have sold more copies than all but the most overhyped 3D gorefests they cram down our throats. . . The market for Rockstar Games' nicely-done dreck and inferior clones isn't really that big, IMO . . .

Idea: Why not an all-Galaga collection . . . Everybody ignores the later versions/sequels/whatever they are, even though they weren't bad games . . . Of course, someone will point out that it exists, I'm sure, and I just didn't know it . . .

How about Evercrack? We know 2600 couldn't quite handle the heavy 3D graphics in real time, let alone handle multiple players and a keyboard for real time conversation.

A short video of EverQuest on 2600 would blow the pants off any die hard EverQuest fan. For a nice touch, grab any old PC keyboard, cut the plug off, and stick the end into the opening next to the RF cable and make it look like a hardwired keyboard.

true MMORPG on a 2600 would probably qualify as the holy grail of the programmer's world.

Yeah, it would be cool to see video of a game that was never possible on the 2600 such as Galaga. Or any other Arcade game that was too graphicly intense for the 2600.

I agree with this... perhaps Pole Position! :) a clip from the arcade version, that is.

Heh. Could the original Gameline (now AOHell) even handle two players at once, much less a million . . . I can see it now, and I'm sure the wheels are ticking in the head of one of the uber-developers around here (Dammit, Andrew, if you had thought of this in '84, there never would've been a damn crash) . . .

ADVENTURE ONLINE!!!

Many more castles, many more keys, many more bridges, many more ducks . . . And eight million blocks all stabbing each other with the sword . . .

I think I might just make this with Game Maker :)

But, hell, I'd settle for having huge dialup charges just to be able to actually play four-player Warlords. :)

There's another one with a year name, I think '91 . . . Don't remember it in the arcade, but it was on PCE/TG16 . . . And it's different from '88, which I have played in the arcade.  Might be an alternate name for Gaplus, though . . .

i think you're right... Galaga '91, and apparently it was for Game Gear (perhaps a Lynx port is in order?)

Actually, thees' lots of good reinactment videos of the Wright flights, some of which are good enough that short of knowing that there was no original video footage of it, are pretty conviencing.

But seriously, whatever you do, do it in color to really show it off.

How about an Atomic bomb explosion? There are lots of those in color (or colorized) and it's an interesting video, relatively fast and would show off the thing good IMO. Though you'd have to have an alternate sound, as the typical boom drug out sound effect is kinda blahh.

Hmmm... Ive already mentioned VCS dragon's lair enough, so I'll let that one be. :-)

Star Rider would also be awesome

http://www.dragons-lair-project.com/games/pages/sr.asp

and even with 10 seconds one could make some creative use of looping a a few seconds here and there, with some different turns (right / left,) and randomness and even have a fully playable on your hands. Or just show off how purty it is.

You could make something useful, make a cartridge of "The Amageddon Key"

http://netdesign.net/~moses/rock_rule/

scroll down just a bit and you will see a triangular computer graphic head, and a blue 3d shape. That shape is the armageddon key, animated 3d tron style in the movie rock n rule. to activate the key requires some notes sung by 'blondie era' deborah harry, which she does in the movie. So, having the nice 3d rendered animated armageddon key as the 10 seconds of video, along with the deborah harry warbling for the audio would give you a cartridge capable of opening pentagrams in the ground that summon demons (see bottom of the page.) (the demon, incindentally, is animated by hand drawn art, lighting effects, and cow brains in layers of sheets of glass. great stuff :-) )

video of the chick from the ring crawling out of the tv to get you, the idea being that whoever plays the video on this cart is now part of that whole 'ring' plot line.

Those last two save it from being just some 'demo video' and at least give it some conceptual purpose, a reason to exist, if you will.

oh, yea, funny thing. this was what I originally thought and researched, the impetus for this post, yet I forgot to post it. LOL

http://www.asterius.com/atari/quicktimegallery

The atari st 'cyber' line of 3d cad/animation stuff really was miles ahead of it's time, and scene of the 3d vehicle and the atari logo with the lightening where it flies into the I as it becomes an atari st, (and the initial transformation of the disc into the vehicle,) along with the very -very- atari sounds would make for a great demo-video cart that is very atari specific :-) there are parts that could even be cleverly used to store a single frame or two (like where it 'docks' with the motherboard,) and just do some color cycling to extend the length (color cycling could be use to 'activate' the lightening too,) if done properly you could really get a lot more than 10 seconds out of your '10 seconds worth' of frames.

Ressurecting this old thread because I thought it was absolutely brilliant work.

As anything been done with this technology since the thread?

Yes, there's a thriving underground market in Atari porn, you just don't know the right people to ask.

Personally, I'm still doing very low resolution video stuff these days, only not with Atari. I'm building my own 1930s mechanical television. Really! see Narrow Band Television Association Forum

Worlds Fair first TV was intoduced in1928 wasn't it? Also it was a color TV too IIRC. Cool to see such a neat project is popular enough to have a forum (with users).
