Tempest #1 Posted December 15, 2003 Are those gray-blue STE/Falcon controllers exactly the same as the Jaguar controller? Can you use a jag controller on the STE? Anyone have one of the gray/blue versions for sale/trade? I've been told they're quite easy to get in Germany, but I haven't been able to find one. Atariforce #2 Posted December 15, 2003 Can you use a jag controller on the STE? Yes Unfortunately not many games are compatible with it.
Clint Thompson #3 Posted December 15, 2003 I've found a lot of Falcon-related games to be compatible so far. You can get these from 16/32 systems IIRC....(at least, that's where I got mine) Clint Thompson
Major Havoc 2049 #4 Posted December 16, 2003 I got my Atari Power Pad from 16/32 Systems as well. Great online store for STE and Falcon stuff.
Tempest #5 Posted December 16, 2003 16/32 Systems? Where are they? They got a webiste? Tempest
+Sauron #6 Posted December 16, 2003 http://www.1632systems.co.uk I think they may be out of stock, however. I don't see them listed on their website anymore.
Tempest #7 Posted December 16, 2003 Yeah I didn't see it either. Oh well... Anyone want to sell me one? I need a Mega STE too BTW Tempest
Curt Vendel #8 Posted December 16, 2003 Matt, Email Karl (AEX): [email protected] as I think he may have a few of those badboys boxed... he sent me one not too long ago. I like the light grey, but the blue buttons, hmmm... Curt
Clint Thompson #9 Posted December 16, 2003 The controller overall is nice... be warned the D-pad sucks. It's different then the Jag's d-pad... and I tell you ... I can NOT play Tempest 2000 with it for anything! But... for things like superfly haha...
Tempest #10 Posted December 16, 2003 It's different then the Jag's d-pad. How so? Tempest
Clint Thompson #11 Posted December 16, 2003 Well... the D-pad itself has a much more extreme curving towards the center. It's kinda weird after using the Jaguars D-pad for so long... and it seems to make controling fast action games kinda hard (like T2K) I just gave up after a couple of rounds and plugged the good ol' Jag controller back in. I would still get one if you have your heart set on it. They are still nice to have, especially for a STe/Falcon setup
Maarten Martens #12 Posted December 16, 2003 Oh man, I would love to buy that pad ... I had no idea they existed ... I thought you had to use the jag controllers with some kind of extra add-on to connect it to the STe ...
+Sauron #13 Posted December 16, 2003 Oh man, I would love to buy that pad ... I had no idea they existed ... I thought you had to use the jag controllers with some kind of extra add-on to connect it to the STe ... The STe and up computers all had "analog" controller ports, as they were called prior to the Jag's release. Atari just decided to use the same port on the Jag. Listen to what Clint says, though. These controllers are bad compared to the standard Jag controller. The D-pad is much less responsive and not as accurate, and the cord is much shorter. These are only good for collectibility reasons. Otherwise I'd just suggest to buy a standard Jag controller if you don't have one already.
Maarten Martens #14 Posted December 16, 2003 But how do you plug the jag controller in the STE?
Mendon #15 Posted December 16, 2003 JagWarlord had a grey controller for sale last week. He posted it in the Marketplace, I believe, and wanted like $40 for it. Mendon
atarianer2003 #16 Posted December 16, 2003 I've picked it up from eBay - for € 2,-
Ayreon #17 Posted December 16, 2003 But how do you plug the jag controller in the STE? On the left side of a STE are 2 ports that have the same shape as the jaguar controller ports. That's where you plug in the Jag/Power pads. You don't need no extra hardware or anything
Maarten Martens #18 Posted December 16, 2003 Oh my God, thanks Ayreon ... I had no idea ... This is SO cool ! I never even used those ports before and I have my STe for more than 10 years
+Sauron #19 Posted December 16, 2003 If you want to put the Jag controller to use on some games, go grab some of the Reservoir Gods games. I believe most (if not all) of them use the Jag pad. They even wrote a mouse driver for it!
Maarten Martens #20 Posted December 17, 2003 Yeah, I love the RG games ... I'm a big fan ... You can read some reviews of their games on my website ... Played superfly to death ... but with my Jag controller it wel be even better! Thx,
neo_rg #21 Posted December 17, 2003 hehehe you'll love a couple of the game's that are in the pipeline then, best go out and buying a few jagpads for multiplayer fun and incase you break one in frustration.. muhahaha
Maarten Martens #22 Posted December 17, 2003 Games in the pipeline? Can you give some details?
neo_rg #23 Posted December 17, 2003 can't say a lot or it will spoil the surprise for everyone, but let's just say crack cocaine isn't as addictive.. quick someone call the police the reservoir gods have turned into drugs dealers! muhahaha
Ayreon #24 Posted December 17, 2003 By the way, you can add some extra hardware to the STE/Falcon's analog controller ports that transforms one port into a 3 port standard ATARI plug joystick port. So in total you can hook up 8 Joysticks. The only game that supports this so far ( i think ) is Dynabusters+ by tSCc http://www.tscc.de/softogr.html It's great fun... But i don't know at the moment where to get the schematics for this nice little "interface"
Major Havoc 2049 #25 Posted December 17, 2003 You can also hook up the Atari Jaguar multi-tap and play 4 player Chu Chu Rocket on your STE/Falcon.
