belboz
I wanted to start this since Tempest was talking about the best Atari gaming rig for game compatibility. I wanted to list the games that I have in fact run successfully on my Mega STE with TOS 2.06. In a few cases you may see an entry noting I used a Tos 1.0 boot disk in order to play the game. Only two games so far I have used this technique on. I will try to update it with games that don't work also. This list should be pretty accurate. I don't guarantee it 100% Just because it isn't on here doesn't mean it won't work, probably I just haven't tested it yet. 10th Frame (Tos 1.0) Afterburner Andes Attack Another World APB Arkanoid (Tos 1.0) Arkanoid 2 Arkanoid 3 Artic Fox Asteroids Barbarian Barbarian (Psygnosis) Barbarian 2 Barbarian 2 (Psygnosis) Battlezone Better Dead than Alien Black Lamp Black Out Bobo Bolo Bubble Bobble Bubble Ghost Buggy Boy Cadaver California Games 2 Captain Blood Centipede Challenge Golf Chaos Engine Chessmaster 2000 Chips Challenge Circus Circus Attractions Crazy Cars 3 Crystal Castles Daily Double Racing Defender II Defender of the Crown Doodle Bug Dungeon Master Dungeon Master 2: Chaos Strikes Back Dynablasters Elite Empire Strikes Back Final Assault Frogger Galaxian Gauntlet 2 Gauntlet 3 Ghouls and Ghosts Gods Grid Runner Hard Drivin Hard Drivin 2 Hero Ikari Warriors International Karate International Karate + Joust Kick Off Kick Off 2 Klax Lemmings Lemmings 2 Lethal Xcess Llamatron Lotus Espirit Turbo Challenge Manhunter NY Manhunter SF Marble Madness Megalomania Mega Twins Metrocross Microprose Golf Millipede Moon Patrol Mouse Trap Nebulus No 2nd Prize North and South Obsession Oh No More Lemmings Oids Outrun OXYD Pacland Pacmania Painter Paperboy Parasol Stars Photon Storm Projectyle Rainbow Islands Rick Dangerous Robocop Robotron Rod Land R-Type R-Type 2 SDI (Cinemaware) Sensible Soccer Shadow of the Beast 2 Shuffle Puck Sonshushi Speedball Speedball 2 Stardust Star Wars Strider Strider 2 Stun Runner Stunt Car Summer Games 2 Summer Olympiad Sundog Supercars 2 Super Sprint Super Stario Technocop Tempest Test Drive Test Drive Duel The Fox (Titus) The Games: Summer Edition The Great Gianna Sisters Toobin Towers Turrican TV Sports Football Ultima II Ultima III Ultima IV Ultimate Arena Uninvited Vroom Wings of Death Winter Games World Games Xenon 2 Zany Golf
Tempest
WOW! Thanks! This is very useful information! You should start an ST Compatibility FAQ. Something like the Falcon one that's out there now. I think people would like to know what games don't work with each TOS version (might be simpler than listing what games do work). belboz
Updated the list with a few titles. Tempest you should be happy to know Ultima 3 and 4 were added. Haven't checked any other Ultima's yet.
Tempest
Interesting. I tried Ultima III on my TT last night and got four bombs right after the title screen. Odd that it wokrs on the STE and not TT. Oh well... Tempest
belboz
Did you run the 24bit program first and then try Ultima III? Interesting. Tempest
Did you run the 24bit program first 24bit? Is that a compatibility tool? Nope! Where can I get it? Tempest
belboz
Yep. I attached it and a few other TT tools to this message. You can use it a couple ways. Put it in an auto folder on a disk. Boot the disk when you want to test 24bit mode on a game. After you get to the desktop then put in your game disk a launch the game. If the game boots from an auto folder, you can make a copy of the diskette (I wouldn't mess with your original) and put the 24bit.prg in the auto folder. Make sure you use a tool to set the auto folder boot order or do what I do. Just remove the files from the auto folder and then put them back into it in the order you want them to boot. If its a boot sector game your going to have problems. I don't know if 24bit survives a reset, but if it does you could try booting 24 bit first and then putting in the boot sector game disk and doing a ctr-alt-del. Worth a try. Tempest
Ok I tried it and it says that my TT Ram isnt empty. I putit into an auto folder at start up but I can't tell if it loaded or not. BTW is there a way to bypass that really long pause after the RAM tests at start up. It's annoying. Tempest
belboz
Never saw that error. I know when you run 24bit you lose access to the TT memory. You trying to run it from the desktop, I believe it only works from an auto folder at bootup. To skip the mem test or the delay after it hit the space bar. I think there was some utility to configure the delay after the memory test. I am assuming you are aware that you need to hold the alt key as the floppy gets accessed during powerup to allow booting floppies (that don't have boot sectors). I just hold it upon seeing the floppy light come on. If the mem tests come up (non boot sector disks) just hit the space bar. If its an auto folder booting disk you need to do the alt key or it won't actually load it (it boots the hard drive if there is one). So if you didn't do that on the 24bit program when you put it in the auto folder of a floppy that is your problem. You will know if it loads since it displays some information upon running. Ok I tried it and it says that my TT Ram isnt empty. I putit into an auto folder at start up but I can't tell if it loaded or not.
