Lynx II backlight

Recommended Posts

I recently acquired a fully functioning Lynx II unit from a fellow forum member and I love the system and games.

Question I have for you Lynx II experts...whenever I press the "BACKLIGHT" button on my system, the backlight does indeed turn off, but it appears that the screen image disappears as well. Basically, my screen looks like its "OFF" in the black screen state. It appears to be off completely, even under very bright external lighting. Oddly enough, when I press the BACKLIGHT button again, the screen instantly displays again (with the backlight).

Is something wrong with my Lynx system or is the LCD display really that dark and hard to see without the backlight on?

That's the way it's supposed to function. The Lynx screen wasn't designed to be able to see anything without the backlight, it's not the same as a reflective GB screen.

The only reason for the backlight button is to save battery life if you have to pause a game for a bit to run to the fridge, do your business, etc. :)

Oohhhhh. That explains it. I thought it was to turn off the backlight so you could play it outside on a bright sunny day or something. :ponder:

Thanks for the response. :)

Unfortunately...

Good luck playing it outside on a bright sunny day. The screen gets such a horrible glare, I only enjoy playing my Lynx at night.

TailChao... so when is Zonik coming?! :) haha...

On another note... and I'm sure this has been mentioned before... but has anyone tried a 2 or 4 white LED on the Lynx to see if this helps save battery power or can it be done like that?

nothing wrong with it, it just literally turns off the backlight. Those old screens (well most backlit screens) aren't designed to be seen without a, well, backlight. Though any light source should technically work.

Always wondered if I hacked with part of the reflector to let external light in, if i could get the lynx to display an image with the backlight off using an external light source? I mean, I'm pretty sure the screen is still on, just the light is off.

I don't have a lynx available to look at at the moment, but if I recall correctly, the back light button and the button above it had to be pushed at the same time. I think there is an orange line connecting the two to indicate this, but don't recall.

My lynx is busted apparently, I have to take it apart and clean everything and see if a button is sticking or something 9what someone mentioned in my other topic)

[edit]Sorry, did a google search on the image, and it appears the baclkight button is by itself, Looks like the top and middle act as a reset
