A2600 #1 Posted December 19, 2003 I have a couple of concerns about the GTA Double Pack... Especially for the XBOX (note I owned both GTA Games back when I had the PS2) - Was anything taken out?? - What BONUSES does the XBOX get?? Thanks and Merry X-Mas
Starscream #2 Posted December 19, 2003 Same games, slightly updated graphics and in GTA VC you can add custom sountracks.
Jasoco #3 Posted December 19, 2003 What about the problems with sound cutting out and such? Was that resolved?
Starscream #4 Posted December 19, 2003 No problems yet for me

Jasoco #8 Posted December 19, 2003 You know, you don't have to PUT certain words in ALL caps, you KNOW (no offense).Excuse me, but that's how I express accentuation. Um.. you know, rather than wasting time to click the Bold tag button. I like to type capital letters. Maybe other people do too. I'm sorry, but does it really bother you? I mean he didn't even capitalize too much! Only BONUSES and the system names. So what?

moycon #10 Posted December 19, 2003 When it's said the game has SLIGHTLY updated graphics. Are the graphics just the same only SHARPER like LESS jaggies..... Or are the graphics UPDATED in other ways? I'm really kind of suprised they didn't add anything to the games to make them more desirable to purchase.
Jasoco #11 Posted December 19, 2003 Takes advantage of the Xbox's awesome PS2 killing abilities. From what I've seen, the graphics are SIGNIFICANTLY nicer looking. Lighting effects and graphics.
Mock #12 Posted December 19, 2003 the GTA pack on the Xbox is much better than the PC version or the PS2 version IMHO...it just looks a lot better to me. Don't know what esle to tell ya....
Chris++ #13 Posted December 19, 2003 My only "concern" is that Vice City SUCKS, while GTA 3 has become one of my favorite video games of all time. They really dropped the ball with this sequel. The amount of time-limit missions turns it into more of a racing game than an adventure game; you can tell they ran out of interesting ideas. There are also several bugs; a car you leave parked often disappears after you get the briefing on your mission, even if your character hasn't moved more than a couple feet. Most of the cars on the road are the same type you're driving, making it difficult to switch to a different kind -- as opposed to GTA 3, in which it (quite logically) depends on the area you're exploring. Also, too many movies! I'm not watching a movie; I'm playing a game, here! The cell phone idea's stupid too. Most of the calls are only filler dialogue, which you have to wait through before starting the next mission. Vice City is all "extras" and very little game. The missions themselves amount to a "Racing Expansion Pack" added to the first game's engine, and nothing more. I would save cash if I were you and just buy 3. I hear and agree with some of your points, but disagree with your conclusion; I noticed a lot of the same problems, and overall Vice City feels a lot better to me. (I think some of it might be based on what I played first, Vice City; going back to GTA3, it just felt a lot clunkier overall, though it was kinda cool that your character never talked.) It was kind of weird that 80s guy had a cellphone and modern day guy had merely a pager. In any event, the two are similar enough that I think it's kind of weird to think one is an all time great and the other sucks.
Jasoco #15 Posted December 19, 2003 I think I'm really only attracted to VC because of the 80's theme and music.

Clock #18 Posted December 20, 2003 Here are the differences between Xbox and PS2 versions acording to a Xbox magazine. I haven't played wither because Xbox version is not out in the UK until Jan 2nd and I sold my PS2 without playing this first. Draw distance is vastly improved so there is less excuse for accidents crashing into on comming traffic that pops up in front of you like on the PS2 version. Graphics are vastly more detailed such as characters have individiual fingers rather than a block for a hand. Engines on cars are proper detailedd 3d objects rather than a block of pixels which sort of look like an engine. Vice city has custom soundtrack so you can listen to your own 80s music if you so wish. The game missions are apparently identical (unless some easter eggs are discovered later). I think this is a good thing as everyone says how fantastic the original PS2 version is, so why mess with it.
Avid Fan #19 Posted December 20, 2003 As much as I love the music in Vice City (Megadeth and Motley Crue are 2 of my favorite bands) I actually like the music in GTA3 better. That Scarface music station is too cool. But the first time I played Vice City, it was just too cool. I was already decent at GTA3, and I had just killed a bunch of people (In the game) the cops were chasing me, I stole a fast car and sped away while Peace Sells was blasting away. Its really kinda hard to compete with that
+kisrael #20 Posted December 20, 2003 Draw distance is vastly improved so there is less excuse for accidents crashing into on comming traffic that pops up in front of you like on the PS2 version. Draw distance might be better, but I haven't heard anything about them fixing the "amnesia" the game suffers from...a car is behind you, do a 360, maybe it's a different car or no car altogether. Supposedly an artifact of limited PS2 RAM, but I dunno. Really annoying too, because overall the game does so well at feeling like a "little real city" that that really detracts. I do wish GTA4 (or 5, whatever it'll be) wasn't going to be a PS2 exclusive...for one thing I'd get rid of my PS2, and for another, its gonna be designed with the limitations of that beast in mind. If it came out first on Xbox, it would like be a richer environment.
moycon #21 Posted December 20, 2003 Hopefully the GTAs to come will feature full access to all buildings. Part of the fun for me was being able to go into buildings and mess around. You could get into a few buildings in GTA3...I have yet to play GTA VC so maybe this is already implemented. For me, The perfect GTA would be everything it is now with the addition of allowing you into any buildings and you could steal things like TVs or VCRs and pawn them for $$ that you would use to buy weapons or high tech equipment only available from the black market. You could search the buildings for hidden packages or amunition. You might have a mission where you had to break and enter and find "plans" or drugs trying hard to avoid thugs all the way. You might have a mission where you had to light a candle, turn on the gas to the oven and run outside and wait for the room to explode. You also might break in and get a peek at an unsuspecting person in the shower... WOOHOO!! Of course if you did any of this, you'd run the risk of bumping into a home owner packing heat who might try to cap your ass or setting off the home security system that would bring the cops ASAP. Deus Ex had access to alot of buildings but most of the stuff you came across really wasnt any use to you (Cigs, beer, boxes, trashbags *yawn*) You could turn on the showers and faucets...But why bother??? More interactivity with the enviroment for a reason is what I want!! Anyone agree with this?

I played the hell out of GTA3 and I was bored until Vice City came along. I love Vice City for what it is. It's an expansion pack, obviously. I loved the missions and not long after, My brother and I beat Vice City. I hope that the next game is not just a glorified expansion pack. Seeing how Rockstar is taking it's sweet time on it, we might be getting something of better quality in 2004.

Vice City allows you to go into stores/pharmacies and hold up the cashier for money. That's basically all you can do besides buying things like suits and so forth. It's not interactive enough for me. Not sure if you knew already, but you can fly helicopters and such in Vice City.

I dunno, but it would have to be done really carefully, otherwise the game would seem....cluttered maybe? Part of the beauty of GTA3/VC is that it's a really fun world, but with generally not too many "extra"/special interfaces...you have controls for running around, a sniping mode, a driving mode, and a set of helicopter and flying controls. And some gun buying controls. That's about it. I wonder if a game with a lot of things to fiddle with indoors would be that much fun...maybe it's just a lack of imagination on my part, but still. I have never seen this on an Xbox game and would be shocked if it was the case on the Xbox version. I will know on Jan 2nd when it is released here in the UK.
