twbrown #1 Posted December 21, 2003 was just looking in ebay and theres a Mega STE up for auction for those of you who are looking..and its NTSC (In NYC i think) hehehe wish he had put it up about 2 weeks ago
Tempest #2 Posted December 21, 2003 Yes I saw that. I'm the one who's been whining about not having a Mega STE... Unfortunately the description has been ripped directly from AtariMuseum.com and the picture is from the Computer Musuem (do a right click on it and check the link). I e-mailed the guy for a real pic and a description of what comes with it, but at this point I'm a bit nervous about bidding on it. Tempest
Mendon #3 Posted December 21, 2003 It's over $100 now and I wouldn't bid on it without seeing an actual picture of it, reading a full description of its condition, and knowing exactly what is included. Might be a great system and seller has good feedback; but I wouldn't bid $100 sight unseen/description unknown. Sort of like a blind date; the only thing you know is her name and that you are shown a picture of Catherine Zeta-Jones while the words "Trust Me" ring in your ears. Here's the link: Mega STe Mendon
twbrown #4 Posted December 21, 2003 LOL Oh well didn't see he had done that..be better to sell without those images/info..or to have listed it with just text and put a disclamer that he wasn't using images of the real machine
Inky #5 Posted December 22, 2003 Okay, perhaps I missed this, but what's the dif between the Mega STE and the 1040 STE?
Ayreon #6 Posted December 22, 2003 CPU can run on 16 and 8 MHZ. Built in HD. More RAM. VME bus. I think that are most of the differences
atarianer2003 #7 Posted December 22, 2003 Actually it stands nearly $160 - I've paid for my Mega STE with 270MB Hard Disk, 1.44MB-FDD, TOS2.06, 4MB RAM, Matrix M128 VME-Graphics-Card and Monitor SM146 only 25 € (also on eBay) (ok ok, I'm in "good old" Europe ) Mike
Tempest #8 Posted December 22, 2003 Yeah that price is insane. Especially considering that people are buying it blind (no picture and almost no description). I'd only pay $150+ for a Mega STE if it was boxed. I think I only paid $200 for my TT030 and it came with a bunch of software, a huge monochrome high res monitor and a laser printer. Tempest
atarianer2003 #9 Posted December 22, 2003 The only stuff I've paid more than 100 Euros, were my Stacy2 (Laptop only) and the Jaguar+JaguarCD (both Jag-Devices boxed). My TT I've grabbed also from eBay for only 65 € For a BOXED M/STE I wouln't pay more than 100 € Mike
oesii #10 Posted December 22, 2003 CPU can run on 16 and 8 MHZ. Built in HD. More RAM. VME bus.I think that are most of the differences I dont' know much about the ST line because I just got my first 1040ST this year but it was heavily modded so I think I'm in good shape. It has 4mb of Ram, a toggle for two different TOS, a switch for 8mhz and 16mhz, and included an external hard drive. Sounds like I have a mini-STE and all for $
jens #11 Posted December 22, 2003 Sounds like I have a mini-STE and all for $85 Sounds like you have an ST with a PAK and external hard drive
Albert #12 Posted December 22, 2003 Unfortunately the description has been ripped directly from AtariMuseum.com and the picture is from the Computer Musuem (do a right click on it and check the link). I e-mailed the guy for a real pic and a description of what comes with it, but at this point I'm a bit nervous about bidding on it. That's rotten that the seller has ripped both the description and an image from two different sites, and is even directly linking to the picture on the Old-Computers.com site. And of course with no mention that this is not a picture of the system you are purchasing. But of course, at the top of the auction the sellers states, "Rest Assured, You can put your trust in us!" Sigh, eBay. Please let us know if you hear back from the seller. ..Al
Tempest #13 Posted December 22, 2003 No reponse yet. I wouldn't bid on it... Tempest
A2600 #14 Posted December 22, 2003 No reponse yet. I wouldn't bid on it... Tempest There is no mention that it includes a Monitor, mouse or Keyboard!! By any standards they might get the core unit only!! I would be very mad to pay 150+ and get just the system and nothing else!!
twbrown #15 Posted December 23, 2003 Well if you figure shipping cost frome europe the price isn't all that bad..and if its cpu only (no monitor, mouse ect) i would be pissed too.. I got a mega, monitor, mouse, and external floppy for for about 150 US..mind you the monitor is useless as it has euro plug on it..but got a multisync so not needed anyways (hehe anyone want it its the mono one..just shipping cost only) my mega is in great shape and well worth what i paid for it.. shipping and bank wire fee sucked tho..was allmost what i paid for the comp itself

twbrown #18 Posted December 28, 2003 Hehehe aye.. allways low till last day of bidding I paid 130 Euros for mine..was at 68 till last day then whoom..The shipping cost is what makes ordering one from that side of the pond a problem..also be nice if they took paypal (got to be cheaper then bank wire) altho the guy i got mine from was first rate =) very nice and really patient with this ol southern hick ;P
Tempest #19 Posted December 28, 2003 I've seen alot of nice Mega STE auctions on Ebay.de and UK, but I didn't know if they would work properly in the US. Wouldn't I need some kind of converter for the power supply? Would anything else be different from a US Mega STE? Tempest
atarianer2003 #20 Posted December 28, 2003 You'll need a converter from 230V to 115V - or another power supply unit in the Mega STE. The TV-connector works on 50Hz (PAL) and maybe the OS is in another language
twbrown #21 Posted December 28, 2003 well i picked up a power supply on ebay for $7.99..and yes its in diff language but from reading the boards i needed to upgrade to tos 2.06 anyway so no biggy there..but then my other options was getting one from a atari dealer on this side for errmm..low ball was like $599.00 recon with 1 meg memory... twbrown #23 Posted January 4, 2004 Aye figured that one out but all is good since it will be a backup incase the one in the Mega goes south
Tempest #24 Posted January 4, 2004 So other than the OS possibly being in a foreign language there's nothing else that would be different? Well the RF out would be different, but who the heck uses that? Tempest
twbrown #25 Posted January 5, 2004 Aye keyboard has a few extra keys and tos roms were german but got tos 2.06 on the way also all the software was german as well but no biggy there as alot of it not needed..only thing i wish i had gotten with it was english operating disk
