Someone stole my credit card number

Recommended Posts

Got a call from MasterCard. They asked if I spent $3000 at Wal-Mart and $1500 at PEI (Playboy.com I think?) in California. Well, I live in Pennsylvania which is 3000 miles away, so I said, "No." Fortunately, I'm not obligated to pay these stolen charges.

I'm kinda curious how they got my number. That card isn't even used by me except for Ebay and Yahoo, so I'm thinking maybe a disgruntled employee stole the numbers and went shopping.

Yeah, there's very little you can do about these things. It was probably some inside job that leaks out a few numbers a week to crooks.

I had a Discover card that I only had for a month and only used it one time at an upscale Hilton resort. Well a couple of weeks later their security office called me and asked if I had bought $1500 worth of inkject cartridges. Uh, no? :D

So it had to be someone at the hotel or maybe the badguys have ways to get numbers fresh off the assembly lines these days.

This is a Nigerian fraud scam and it's an inside job at the CC company. Actual members of the Nigerian government are organizing this. It's been going on for at least the past 3 years. They've been taking over alot of accts from DISC and Bank of America.

Kepone? I don't see a message from kepone? Guess it was deleted.

Ebay sent me an email... your credit card is not accepting charges. Well yeah, it was stolen. I wonder what would happen if I refused to give them a new card? They'd lose about $100 worth of fees, and I assume I'd get kicked off.

How hard is it to create a new account?

Just keep replying to those "EBay Security Check" emails and your problems will soon stop...

that happened to a friend of mine, they took it to america and spent like 2 grand on stuff. i think it shouldbe required to present ID when using credit cards or something, it would probably solve alot of problems

He's really not an asshole. He just has a flair for the absurd. :)

I agree. My credit card says, "DEMAND/ask for photo ID," but since the thief created a fake card, that didn't do any good.

Well whatever. Maybe I could change my address, and let the thief pay off my debt.

;)
