Commodore 64C Floppy Drives

I just got a Commodore 64C and of course it didn't come with a drive. I've got a 1571 in the deep recesses of my storage building that someone had given me. I'd like to use it since they were double sided (and I lost my disk notcher long ago ). Before I go to the trouble of digging the drive out of storage, I just want to make sure the 64C can use the 1571 in double-sided mode. I seem to recall that you could hook a 1571 up to the 64, but it would act like a 1541 (single sided).

By default, the 1571 will detect the slow serial port and fall into 1541 single-sided mode. However, you can still tell the drive to go into 1571 mode and use double sided disks.

 

Just type:

open15,8,15,"u0>m1":close15

 

Should you ever want to force it back to 1541 mode, type:

open15,8,15,"u0>m0":close15
