Caféman's "EGADS!" Award for 2003

Recommended Posts

I have only one winner to report today, and that is the winner of the "Egads! These Load Times Are Horrendous" Award.

The winner is: Finding Nemo for the GameCube (also on PS2/XBox).

One-time media darling Traveller's Tales has really lost touch with the idea of fun gaming. Not only is the game a pretty example of a boring game we've played before but you get 2 minute load times between levels! Yee HAW! I couldn't believe the load times on this thing. It just ruins the fun completely, please don't waste your money on this game. We need the old Virgin teams back for fun Disney film games!

Feel free to post your own "EGADS!" Awards if you think of any.

I'm finding it ridiculous that I've made virtual disc images of several Playstation games to play with ePSXe and I still get the "Loading" screens even though they're now loading off the virtual drive. Oh well...at least I can play them directly off the computer now!

A couple of offenders:

-- Simpsons Road Rage (GC/PS2) I like the game, but it takes _forever_ to load those boards up.

-- Serious Sam (Xbox) : SS is a fairly complex title trying to cram 50 pounds of butt into 30 pound butt capacity pants. Once again that load and occasional disc ERR make Hex a cranky boy.

-- Crazy Taxi 3 (Xbox) : The offence isn't horrid, but the system does not cache the mini-boards you are playing on when you are doing the Crazy X. Try this: pick a crazy X trick and fail. Now when you retry, the map and car is reloaded. This didn't appear to be an issue with the DC versions of the game. :(

Hex.

[ Can't wait to start handing out Metabee Bops for the new year... ]

Wow, there is no excuse for slow loading times on a GC. None at all.

There are a lot of PS2 games that seemed to take an age to load (GTA:Vice City for one) but then, I had a GC before a PS2 so I was probably spoiled in that respect.

(not really putting down PS2 here, fanboy types, but those games do take longer to load generally)
