For those who don't have a light gun but want one...

Recommended Posts

I've got a lightpen for my Commodore. I would "assume" it would work.

What 7800 games use a gun anywho? I'm interested to try this some time now.

Now I wonder about the Genesis Lightgun. I'd imagine I'd have to change the pinout for that to work tho?

And the trigger connection too .. An Adapter makes this one work with all the Atari systems (2600, 7800, 8-bit).

It depends on the Genesis gun. Some have really funky serial connections and won't work. A Sega Master System or Saturn gun would be a better choice.

I actually have a light pen for my C64, and it doesn't work.

So CBM & Atari lightpens are not compatable it would seem.

Does anybody know what the signaling is at the jack for the 7800 lightgun? (I know, there was no 7800-specific lightgun....) I need to know for an emulator that I'm writing. Any URLs for technical docs would be appreciated. I have not tried experimenting yet, but I highly suspect it may be as simple as triggering "FIRE" at precise times as the screen is being drawn. Can anybody confirm or deny?

Yeah, that's the way I remember it. The gun pulls pin one (joystick north) low,

then pin six (joystick fire) goes low when the light sensor in the gun activates, in other words, when

the moving white line on the screen comes into the gun's field of view.
