StanJr #1 Posted January 4, 2004 Picked up SprintMaster this weekend and after just a few games I must say its amazing. The amount of track selection, one or two player, various terrains, "power-ups," crash or bounce options, tracks with tunnels and jumps and shortcuts! Why would anyone ever play Indy 500 again with this baby out there. WOW. What an amazing racing game. Which begs the question, does Thomas' Driving Controller hack make it even better? Anyone else as impressed as I am by this game?
Christophero Sly #2 Posted January 4, 2004 I think having to use the joysticks ruins the game. Beyond that, however, the game is very impressive with all its tracks, power-ups, set-up options, and racing elements. It would be great fun if it used the driving controllers, like the arcade. For me, Indy 500 is still a better game.
NE146 #3 Posted January 5, 2004 It would be great fun if it used the driving controllers, like the arcade. For me, Indy 500 is still a better game. Well, that is the "Thomas' driving controller hack" that Stan's talking about. It modifies the game to use the Driving Controllers. IMHO, it is far better with the hack (I've played it on a Cuttlecart) http://www.atariage.com/hack_page.html?Sys...ftwareHackID=
SS #4 Posted January 5, 2004 IMHO, it is far better with the hack (I've played it on a Cuttlecart) I'd imagine that it would be a much better game with the driving controllers. It's certainly a great looking game. I just find it awkward to control with a joystick.
Room 34 #5 Posted January 5, 2004 I agree with everyone here... the driving controllers would help greatly. (I haven't played Thomas's hack.) I am disappointed that Atari decided to treat the joystick as the "only" controller for the 2600 in the later years. I think Off the Wall would be far better with paddles. Christophero Sly #6 Posted January 5, 2004 Well, that is the "Thomas' driving controller hack" that Stan's talking about. It modifies the game to use the Driving Controllers. Right...I misread Stan's post. I read it as "what if Thomas hacked it to use Driving Controllers". I wasn't aware that Thomas had already done so. Rob Mitchell #7 Posted January 5, 2004 Sprintmaster reminds me of the Indy 800 game in the arcades .. which had oil spills to avoid. That is why I modified Thomas' hack of Sprintmaster to feature the Indy 500 cars. Even with the Driving Controllers .. Sprintmaster is still difficult for me to control. Thus I still prefer the Indy 500 game! Rob Mitchell, Atlanta, GA
Adrian M #8 Posted February 3, 2004 Just got my copy of the game (brand new/sealed and only $2.99 (!!!)courtesy of eBay). The game is truly great, even with joysticks. Tons of variety in the tracks and just an overall impressive game to play on the old 2600.
Big Player #9 Posted February 4, 2004 I just got this game a week or two ago and I like it. I can't believe I passed on it before. Of course the first time I passed on it, I had just trading in Super Sprint for the NES back to one of those trading stores. I forget the name, they were always going out of business. I had no idea at the time that those Tengen games were Atari. It's funny that had more games by Tengen for my NES than any other manufacturer. I don't have a problem with the joystick, since I spent so much time playing the game with the puny NES controllers. But I would love to have Thomas' hack on a cart. I'm guessing that the Super Chip is the stopping point?
SS #10 Posted February 4, 2004 I would love to have Thomas' hack on a cart. I'm guessing that the Super Chip is the stopping point? I wonder if it will work on the CC2?

I have my hack of Thomas' hack running! My version of Sprintmaster features the Indy 500 cars and uses the driving controllers!
