Gregory DG #1 Posted January 6, 2004 Tonigt I played my most extensive game of Pete Rose Baseball. I got three home runs! Anyway, I was playing it on the Activision Anthology for the GBA, only it wasn't called "Pete Rose Baseball" just "Baseball." So, was the name changed due to licensing or because Rose was banned from baseball? Licensing would be an obvious answer, but since he is to have NOTHING to do with baseball I started to wonder... On a side note, any future baeball games with Pete Rose should have a side game of gambling built-in.
Atariboy #2 Posted January 6, 2004 Why is there a Atari game in Activision Anthology for?
bjk7382 #3 Posted January 6, 2004 Why is there a Atari game in Activision Anthology for? Pete Rose baseball was made by Absolute entertainment, which was founded by a former Activision employee, Garry Kitchen. It wasn't made by atari.
SteveW #4 Posted January 6, 2004 I'm sure that Activision didn't want to license the name of someone who disgraced themselves and their profession. So they just called it "Baseball". That was probably the game's first name while they were looking for a famous baseball player to title it after.
ATARIeric #5 Posted January 6, 2004 i didnt know ole "charlie hustle" pete rose was marketed for a video game. i think a baseball blackjack game for atari would be cool. "PBB" petes blackjack baseball or PBB: petes baseball bets, a game based around gambling, the more you win, the more your men move around the plates and score runs!!! ok, its 1:13am im goofing out goodnight to all
NovaXpress #6 Posted January 6, 2004 I'd rather have a "Daryl Strawberry's Coke Wins."
Cootster #7 Posted January 6, 2004 It's not that Pete can't have anything to do with anything even remotely resembling baseball . . . After all, he was in that Senior League a few years after MLB banned him. MLB had nothing to do with that game, so my guess is, no, he just wanted too much dough . . . What about Bob Ojeda's Speedboat? Now, that'd just be wrong.

joeybastard #9 Posted January 6, 2004 I'm sure it had more to do with licensing then anything else. I doubt Activision cares if he gambles.
trnsfrguy #10 Posted January 6, 2004 Activision Anthology for the PS2 has Pete Rose Baseball included.... So, I would have to believe it has to do with a licensing issue...
Klove #11 Posted January 6, 2004 Yep. It was definitely a licensing issue. Most people (kids) today would not be famaliar with the title Pete Rose Baseball. Although we all know what it is, most kids today wouldn't. Activision DOES NOT own The Absolute Entertainment titles. All we did back then was handle the distribution. We licensed Absolute's 2600 Catalog from Skyworks (Garry's new venture) for inclusion in Anthology. We have those rights tied up for the next 5-6 years. I did check into other companies carts for inclusion on "potential" upcoming Anthologies, but these were the easiest to get.. and really.. "It only made sense." Gregory DG #13 Posted January 6, 2004 Yep. It was definitely a licensing issue. Most people (kids) today would not be famaliar with the title Pete Rose Baseball. Although we all know what it is, most kids today wouldn't. Well, in all honesty, most kids today probably wouldn't be familiar with 90% of the old Activision titles either. Plaque Attack? Pressure Cooker? Enduro? Hmmm... (I do love those games, BTW, but I'm 33!) I find it hard to believe that a kid today would not be familiar with the name "Pete Rose." Especially if they liked baseball and/or if they've watched the TV in the past few days (or even past few years) what with his baseball banishment and uproar about his entering the Hall of Fame... joeybastard #14 Posted January 6, 2004 Well, in all honesty, most kids today probably wouldn't be familiar with 90% of the old Activision titles either. Plaque Attack? Pressure Cooker? Enduro? Hmmm... (I do love those games, BTW, but I'm 33!) True but there is no licensing fee for Plaque Attack. PR Baseball is the same game regardless of name and doesn't have any extra overhead with Pete Rose attached. No kid is going to buy the Anthology because it was called Pete Rose Baseball over just baseball so why pay a fee for the name?

NovaXpress #16 Posted January 6, 2004 So that's why it wasn't renamed "Anna Kournikova's Tennis" by Alan Miller. Actually that name might help sales, we'd need to add in a pixel or two to the player graphic of course.
Gregory DG #17 Posted January 6, 2004 Maybe it could have been called, "Rosy Pete's Baseball"
Avid Fan #18 Posted January 6, 2004 It amazes me that people still hate on Pete Rose when he did bet on Baseball, but never threw games for gambling. But everybody still thinks good old Sammy Sosa is the shit with his corked bats. He says he didn't know. Gimme a break. Real baseball bat, heavy as all hell. Corked, not as heavy

NovaXpress #21 Posted January 7, 2004 THG Home Run Derby That would have to be sponsored by Barry Bonds. People are way too easy on Sammy Sosa, he is the lowest kind of cheater yet his reputation still seems to be intact.
Megamaniac #22 Posted January 7, 2004 People are way too easy on Sammy Sosa, he is the lowest kind of cheater yet his reputation still seems to be intact. People are way too easy on most athletes who let us down. I don't think Sammy Sosa's name is completely untarnished. Based on what I've seen in this forum and people I've talked to, he definitely seems to have lost the "golden Boy" status. Not that I am a Pete Rose fan (I do NOT support him getting in the hall of fame) but I do find it funny that his offense seems worse in some people's minds than the guys who commit violent crimes and are still playing. Doh! I know this is an Atari site...but topics like this are fun to expound on from time to time.
trnsfrguy #23 Posted January 7, 2004 Even though I'm a baseball fan, I could care less for those overpaid bastards!!!! I think Pete Rose should be allowed in the hall if only for his accomplishments on the field, but not allowed to manage or coach. It may be too much of a temptation for him... I agree with Megamaniac in that his crime seems much worse than other athletes's crimes. Anyone remember that Carolina Panther player that had his girlfriend killed because he didn't want to pay child support ??? No one is talking about him lately, but Rose is still being killed over his dumb actions !!
