hanglyman #1 Posted January 8, 2004 I've noticed most of the very best games are quite common, and not too hard to aquire, and that alot of the rare games of rarity 6 and higher are hard to aquire, and not really all that much fun to play What I want to know is which do you think are some of the most fun to play games that are rarity 6 - 10 (not just rare label variations of common carts) Tapper! , Frogger 2 and River Raid 2 all definately come to mind What are some other fun rare games? Thanks, DAS
geosteve #2 Posted January 8, 2004 Road Runner is fun to play, as is the arcade game it's based on I have River Raid II too, and that is also fun
Brad2600 #3 Posted January 8, 2004 Bump and Jump is pretty fun..though it's not that rare. Pitfall II, Tapper and Frogger II are pretty good as well.
Tempest #4 Posted January 8, 2004 Recue Terra I is a blast, so is Quadrun. Tempest
sku_u #5 Posted January 8, 2004 Malagai, Atlantis II, Miner 2049er II, Ram It, Room of Doom, Mines of Minos, and Stargunner are some fun rare games not already mentioned. Quadrun also comes to mind.
goatdan #6 Posted January 8, 2004 6 or above? I would go with River Raid II, Ram It, Frogger II: Threedeep and believe-it-or-not the maze part of X-Man. The first three I've played in life, but X-Man I've only played on an emulator... but I actually had a lot of fun with the goofy mazes.
Brad2600 #7 Posted January 8, 2004 Recue Terra I is a blast, so is Quadrun. Tempest Unfortunately, they're only accessible if you have lots of cash to spare, am I correct? I'm still drooling whenever I see pictures of Quadrun in old issues of AtariAge magazine.
Adrian M #8 Posted January 8, 2004 Add PENGO to the list. It's rated a 6 and in my opinion, the gameplay and controls feel almost spot-on to the coin-op version!
CPUWIZ #9 Posted January 8, 2004 Yikes, nobody has mentioned Cakewalk yet.
bjk7382 #10 Posted January 8, 2004 Yikes, nobody has mentioned Cakewalk yet. I play that one thru the supercharger, and it is a tough game, but also pretty adictive once you get the hang of it.
Rocko #11 Posted January 8, 2004 If it were 5, I would say H.E.R.O., but it isnt so I wont. River Raid 2.
Csonicgo #12 Posted January 8, 2004 Quadrun isn't fun. Explain the fun part, because I'm not seeing it.
MattG/Snyper2099 #13 Posted January 9, 2004 I think quadrun is a very well designed and challenging game. Do you understand how to play it? Also, Boing! is the best mix of rarity and fun IMHO. Music machine is fun, River Patrol is too.

SimonTemplar #15 Posted January 9, 2004 Atari video cube is, in my opinion at least, a great game! And it is a rarity 7...
nesfanboy86 #16 Posted January 9, 2004 i love river raid 2 it is has good graphics for an atari game.
Cootster #17 Posted January 9, 2004 I've always liked Death Trap . . . Should've been a dual-paddle game like Marble Craze, though, I think . . . Others that haven't been mentioned: Motocross Racer -- much more fun on the 2600 than on the keypad-intensive CV version. Crazy Climber (have actually played on real hardware) Mangia (well, it's fun to me . . . Needs music, though, since it's almost a rhythm game) Q*Bert's Qubes (at least if you catch on to what you're supposed to do and don't play it like the first one) Shuttle Orbiter Out of Control (yes, I really like Avalon Hill games. Can you tell?) Crypts of Chaos (Hey, it's a 6 on Atariguide, and I agree with their rating, it's much harder to find than the Fox R4's . . .)
Csonicgo #18 Posted January 9, 2004 Quadrun isn't fun. Explain the fun part, because I'm not seeing it. You have to know how to play it right and then it gets very fun. Honestly, you think I'm that stupid to skip the manual? You move a small box around a plus sign playing field, shootng objects and catching your bullet (or rectangle) on the opposite end. oh kay, where's the fun in that? deathtrappomegranate #19 Posted January 9, 2004 I think that Quadrun is actually quite good. It's tough, but most games of the period were far too easy. Crazy Climber is good too. I'm not a fan of many 2600 games. I always preferred the 8-bit stuff, because I was an arcade kid, and the 8-bit games were just closer to the real deal. No good ports of Scramble, though... But, following recent threads in this forum, I've been playing Dragster a lot. It's actually more addictive once you hear about others' experiences. OK, it's not rare, so it's a little off topic here, but my point is that different games appeal to different people. And that is one of the great aspects of playing video games...there's something for everyone out there.
the 5th ghost #20 Posted January 9, 2004 I like Chase the Chuckwagon for a good challenge. The fun part is trying to get the bonus Doug
tantone56 #21 Posted January 9, 2004 maybe it's because it's the only rare games I have but I really really like halloween nd texas chainsaw masacre. Also I play beat em and eat em alot. adams_ale #23 Posted January 10, 2004 Up n' Down is a very fun rare game; rarity 7. Xenophobe also being a 7 is quite fun though it is too hard on later stages.
ATARIPITBULL #24 Posted January 11, 2004 Crazy Climber & Tapper are very fun to play, but I'm sorry 5th ghost, I don't think that Chase the Chuck wagon is a fun game!
Tempest #25 Posted January 11, 2004 Mangia (well, it's fun to me . . . Needs music, though, since it's almost a rhythm game) Oh yeah I forgot about that one. Mangia is a great game. Tempest
