Adrian M #1 Posted January 8, 2004 I recently bought Thrust+ Platinum from the AA store and have been playing it regularly. This the first homebrew game I've purchased that includes a box. I'm pretty impressed by how well the box came out...the size and overall dimensions seem to match the original format quite well and the print quality is fantastic. My question, who produces and assembles the boxes for the new games? Is the job contracted out to a small print shop at the developer's cost? Does the AA store subsidize some of the costs? I'm interested in learning more about how this works!
Thomas Jentzsch #2 Posted January 8, 2004 Does the AA store subsidize some of the costs? I hope not, at least when enough boxes are sold. They have to produce in larger quantities and pay all the boxes in advance, so there is quite a risk if a game doesn't sell well.
Adrian M #3 Posted January 8, 2004 Who actually manufactures the boxes? Is there a company like PixelsPast or does the game's developer head down to a design studio or packaging plant to request a special order?
Albert #4 Posted January 8, 2004 Who actually manufactures the boxes? Is there a company like PixelsPast or does the game's developer head down to a design studio or packaging plant to request a special order? The Thrust+ boxes (and several others we've had made) were actually printed in Germany. We've done research on box production and it's difficult to find a company that will do low runs of boxes ( ..Al
Wil #5 Posted January 19, 2004 On the subject of homebrew boxes and manuals does anyone know of a self-published title that really went to town with its packaging? I thought the SCSIcide idea of an anti-static bag was great but surely it's the tip of the iceberg? Wil
StanJr #6 Posted January 19, 2004 The Marble Craze tins are extremely sweet.
cvga #7 Posted January 20, 2004 I'll second Stan's sentiment on the Marble Craze tins. However, I don't know if anyone can touch Sniderman's Handpainted Treasure Chests that he packed Venture II into!
Wil #8 Posted January 20, 2004 I imagine you know my next question then. Links to pics? I would imagine the run of packaging like this is very low and that they all go within minutes at shows but it would be nice to see. - Edit Ahhh, a quick search and there they were. Very nice! +Gemintronic #11 Posted October 29, 2013 I hope homebrewers come up with a low risk, affordable packaging option. I don't think "original" packaging is worth what Al and others have to put up with. I *DO* like this special edition unique packaging trend, though! That last post makes me want to make a Fast Food clone
Magic Knight #12 Posted October 30, 2013 For existing games that have been ported to any Atari machine, I use existing boxes from other formats and art them up! Stuff with extras are cool and no reason the atari should miss out http://atariage.com/forums/topic/208995-homebrew-cart-boxes/?hl=%2Bhomebrew+%2Bboxes&do=findComment&comment=2716748 Working on boulderdash construction kit+ and Eastern Front Campaign Edition at the moment,
