RCmodeler #1 Posted January 11, 2004 http://planetquake.com/sda/mp/ I started watching this movie yesterday, and I don't see how anyone can say this game sucks. Especially the final battles against Ridley and Metroid Prime. Since I love sci-fi, I just LOVE this game. Putting on a spacesuit and blowing away aliens... what a great way to relieve stress. Definitely deserved the title Game of the Year. Just curious: Do any movies like this exist for other games? [Edit: Don't watch the movie at full-screen. You'll get dizzy. Watch it at 100% or 200% zoom for best results.]
Jasoco #2 Posted January 14, 2004 Well.. Nice. I'll have to play the other parts later. I only watched 1. And it was impressive, but the game looked hard. Maybe it was just because the person had a lot of practice. Still. It's not cheap enough for me to justify getting yet. That and Mario Sunshine which I sorta liked, but wasn't attracted to like I was 64.

No scratches at all and the manual was in mint condition.

I think I sold mine on ebay for about that much after I beat it. No time records here but it is a fun game.
RCmodeler #5 Posted January 14, 2004 The game's not really hard. I was able to reach 75% without any problem.

Room 34 #7 Posted January 19, 2004 And it was impressive, but the game looked hard. Maybe it was just because the person had a lot of practice. Still. It's not cheap enough for me to justify getting yet. The game is not really that hard. For as much as I love to play video games, I am surprisingly inept, and I am finding it a good challenge, but not excessively difficult. It is DEFINITELY worth $30, which seems to be the going price now. I have heard lots of people say this game has the best graphics "ever" on any platform, and I find it hard to disagree. You simply have to experience this game firsthand to appreciate how great it looks. But it is also very well-done... good concept, interesting maps to explore, nice balance of shooting and puzzles to figure out. Cool sci-fi theme, and seems true to the original Metroid spirit (although I haven't played the NES original enough... but this makes me want to go back and try it again). I only have 7 titles in my GameCube library, but I definitely consider this to be, overall, the best of the 7.

Yeah...even the title screen, with that close up view that looks so much like a electron microscope view, but it's of a Metroid...amazing. I thought it was actual footage being replayed at first. With the visors, Retro Studios makes great use of some effects I've since seen around...the X-ray and heat sensors are terrific. The most amazing Tetris player you will ever see: http://kirkjerk.com/temp/sweet10.wmv And someone equally as good at this japanese dance-dance like game, but there are like 10 colored buttons you hit with your hands, and it's to a piano-like score: http://kirkjerk.com/temp/sweet9.wmv Files stolen from http://stileproject.com , the porn-addiest site on the planet. Jasoco #9 Posted January 19, 2004 So, if you want to see some amazing game footage, and can put up with a few porn banner ads.... The most amazing Tetris player you will ever see: http://www.stilemedia.com/?v=sweet10.wmv And someone equally as good at this japanese dance-dance like game, but there are like 10 colored buttons you hit with your hands, and it's to a piano-like score:http://www.stilemedia.com/?v=sweet9.wmv A FEW? WTF??? You actually have to SEARCH for the links! The images are tiny and it's HARD to find them in all the pictures of PORN. Perhaps you should put the videos somewhere else and link to THOSE because you are really getting a lot of underage people in trouble here. Not to mention the poor souls at work that will read those. Anyway, I've seen the one with the Dance-Dance type game. It is awesome. I am downloading the Tetris one now.
Jasoco #10 Posted January 19, 2004 GOD FUCKING DAMMIT! WHAT DAMN CODEC DID THE ASSHOLE USE? If you can't tell, I can't play this piece of shit video. Oh, I can hear it okay, but see it? Yeah fucking right. Idiots! WHO USES WMV? I HATE ANYONE WHO USES WMV!!! Rant over.
raindog #11 Posted January 19, 2004 My guess would be one of the wmp9 codecs. I haven't tried any of them but the first thing I like to do with wmv's is convert them to avi's or mpg's (dunno how easy that is to do in windows anymore, but on a fully loaded linux box it's cake.) I'll be happy when people stop using formats that can't be shown everywhere. In other words, it'll be a long time before I'm happy again.
Jasoco #13 Posted January 19, 2004 I never thought I'd ever say this, but Thank God for Microsoft... Whaaa?? Did I say that? Anyway, in an effort to remedy the problem, I went in search of updated versions of all three players I would use to play AVI or WMV files. VLC, MPlayer OS X and WMP. Well, all three were severly updated since the last time I downloaded them. I tried VLC first. Downloaded. Looks nicer. A little changed. Try to play file.. NO GO. Next I try MPlayer.. Downloaded. Looks same, a little different. Try to play file.. NO GO. So I bite the bullet. You mentioned it was coded in WMP9 format. I check my WMP version. 7.. WTF? 7? Wow.. has it been THAT long since they updated it? I go to Microsoft.com/mac and find out there IS a WMP9 for OS X! Yay! I download. Install (The only one of the three that ACTUALLY NEEDS INSTALLATION! WTF?) and poof! It works! Now I need to test this baby. Next time I encounter a file that won't play before.. we'll see. Thankfully the MS Mac team is actually up to date. ... [Pause] Whoa.. what version of Tetris is that? I like how it looks! Anyway.. is this real? I mean really real? REALLY REAL? Or faked like the SMB3 one? Edit: Whoa. He was really starting to mess up at the end. But why did they fade it out? They didn't show him lose! The final number and score and everything. Just faded out. WTF?
+kisrael #14 Posted January 19, 2004 Ok, I stuck these on my server, no porn ads. (It's weird, the site says "the link to this video is _____" and if you cut and paste it goes right to a page with only a few porn ads, but if you link to it from another site it redirects to the front page. I could see provent people from linking RIGHT to the wmv files (gotta have ads to pay the bills) but why not to the page) You might want to edit your comments that quoted mine to use the new links: http://kirkjerk.com/temp/sweet10.wmv http://kirkjerk.com/temp/sweet9.wmv The SMB3 wasn't THAT faked...all it does is maybe use autofire, right? Getting some shots off a little too quickly. How else do you think it was phony?
Nukey Shay #15 Posted January 19, 2004 He admitted to playing the game at reduced framerate IIRC.
+kisrael #16 Posted January 19, 2004 Aha. Well, that would explain it a bit. Still, he had an amazing command and knowledge of the game, even if it wasn't in "real time"
RCmodeler #17 Posted January 20, 2004 reduced framerate = cheating. I just downloaded the last part of the Metroid Movie today, and watched it straight through, and I suddenly realized that this game is basically a collection fest. In retrospect, I think they could have used more bosses and less powerups to make MP more action-oriented instead of hide-n-seek-oriented.
+kisrael #18 Posted January 20, 2004 It's cheating but still impressive cheating. Agree about Metroid. For a game that seems to have so much exploration it's super linear as well.
raindog #19 Posted January 21, 2004 After playing Metroid Prime for about 8 hours, I realized I'd missed a few items and scans I couldn't go back and do again, and would have to start over. That's also when I realized I really wasn't giving a crap about the game. I guess I just can't get into FPS games anymore... time to discover my still-unplayed Double Dash and Pac Man World 2 I guess, and when I get bored of them, back to Ocarina of Time It's definitely the prettiest FPS I've ever played though, when you're in lit areas at least.
Avid Fan #20 Posted January 21, 2004 I'll second that. I picked up this bad boy at GameCrazy yesterday and this game just looks cool. I mean, Halo may have better graphics, but metroid is just prettier and not as redundant. I hated FPS with the exception of Doom, Duke3D, and halo, but this one rocks. Lock on feature, how cool is that
RCmodeler #21 Posted January 21, 2004 I don't like FPSes, but I do like Red Faction. I think the difference is that Red Faction includes an entertaining story that I'm interested in unraveling. Also, Metroid Prime isn't really an FPS. As I said before, it's more a game of hide-n-seek. The programmers hid ~100 items, and your job is to go find them. True for the main game, but it has some decent regular combat and some very good boss battles. But that's what the series has always been about. sigma #23 Posted January 21, 2004 I always called it an adventure game set as FPS
compacho #24 Posted January 22, 2004 I read that the third and best ending with 100% has an extra little scene after the credits roll. Its suppossed to hint at the sequel. Does anyone know where I can get a video of that scene since I don't think I can get past 90%.
RCmodeler #25 Posted January 22, 2004 You're joking right? You really don't know where to find a movie with the 100% ending??? Unbelievable!
