Best/Worst Game makers for the 2600?

Recommended Posts

An informal poll...I'd like to hear everyone's take on what are the best and worst game publishers for the 2600. Here's a quick brush from me:

Best

Atari (the later years...Phoenix, Vanguard, Ms Pacman)

Activision

Parker Brothers

Worst

Coleco (DK, DKJr....blech)

Some 20th century fox are pretty good - attack killer tomatoes, Alien etc.

And don't count out Coleco altogether - Mousetrap, Frontline and Mr Do are all pretty cool.

Good point. But still, DK and DKjr pull the average down sooooo low! Guess I should take a Winsorized mean (Oh God, I really need to get a life!)

Nobody has mentioned CBS yet.

They did some pretty good coinop ports like Wizard of Wor and Gorf.

I'd put them at the bottom of the best list.

Best: Supercharger, Atari

Worst: Mythicon, Atari

I mean, Atari made great games like Solaris and Yars Revenge but also released stinklers like SQ: Water World.

I personally love the M-Network games that i've owned. I used to play Astroblast, Dark Caverns, and Lock N' Chase for hours and hours. And I have to agree with the people who said the Supercharger games were the best for the system. Some were just okay, but most totally rocked.

Hi there!

I personally love the M-Network games that i've owned. I used to play Astroblast, Dark Caverns, and Lock N' Chase for hours and hours.

And Adventures of Tron, Air Raiders, Bump'n'Jump... all excellent titles!

Greetings,

Manuel

It's funny how most people put Activision before Imagic. I place Imagic over Activision and Atari. I like more Imagic games. For my own curiosity, I'll list the best game publishers and the games I actually go out of my way to play, not ones I just like in the back of my head but hardly ever revisit.

Imagic

Demon Attack, Subterranea, Laser Gates, Moonsweeper, and Atlantis.

Activision

Starmaster, Enduro, River Raid, and Beamrider.

Atari

E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Yars' Revenge, and Circus Atari.

CBS Electronics

Solar Fox

M Network

Lock 'N' Chase

Coleco

Carnival

Tigervision

Marauder

20th Century Fox

Fantastic Voyage

Parker Brothers

Spider-Man, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

There are many companies that made nothing but horrible games and Mythicon is one of the worst.
