Gabriel #1 Posted January 12, 2004 Was an adaptation of Galaga ever planned for the 5200? Does Galaga exist in any form (even an unlicensed copycat) for the Atari 8 bits?
sku_u #2 Posted January 12, 2004 I've heard rumors that one was planned, but there is no evidence of a prototype or even that this game was started AFAIK. According to DP's Rumor Mill, there was a CX number for this one: CX5228. I'm not sure how well this would have translated onto the 5200. Even the NES version is choppy. Tempest #3 Posted January 12, 2004 Planned but not started. The 2600 version was never started either. Tempest
NE146 #4 Posted January 13, 2004 Any idea why that damn River Raid hack was titled "Galaga"?
Vic George 2K3 #5 Posted January 13, 2004 Any idea why that damn River Raid hack was titled "Galaga"? Probably to sucker you into thinking you're getting a translation of the arcade game for the 2600, if you had bought that game back then where you would most likely find it. jnice #7 Posted July 25, 2004 Sorry for bringing an old post back to life again here, but I really think Galaga could've been done pretty well on a 5200. I just don't buy that the 8-bit/5200 Galaxian was really pushing the limits of the system, for some reason.
Henry Lee #8 Posted July 30, 2004 But I think the 5200 Galaxian was better that the arcade version. Yes, it is always good to see a game pushing its deck's limits. Sometimes 2600 games are incredibly done. Strange .. as a 5200 owner 20 years ago , I remember Super Breakout Galaxian and Star Raiders was my favorite games. Galaxian has fair graphics, fair sound but somehow that backround loop sound and the aliens coming down with the mixture of graphics are damn atmospheric and it worked well.
