So many questions, I guess I could hit google, but you guys are the experts...

So many questions, I guess I could hit google, but you guys are the experts... There is also a search function in this forum, so you can find all of these questions there. I just seen this question asked in the last week or so. BTW: welcome to the forum

Rob Mitchell #4 Posted January 13, 2004 What games were available when the 2600 was launched in 1977? Was the Sears model launched first or at the same time? Was it a Christmas launch? Launch for both the Sears Telegames Video Arcade and the Atari Video Computer System were in October 1977 .. in time for the Christmas season. I got my Sears Telegames Video Arcade as an early Christmas present in October '77. We could not wait. Sears Intro Lauch Titles came into the store one at a time .. over weeks before Christmas. Target Fun (Pack-in game) Tank Plus (first one available at release) Outer Space (third one available) Blackjack Chase Pong Sports Race Speedway II Math (Which begs the question: Where is Speedway I?) Buck #5 Posted January 13, 2004 (Which begs the question: Where is Speedway I?) Rob Mitchell, Atlanta, GA Speedway was supposed to be the first "Sears Only" title. (Kind of like Steeplechase.) When the Sears Video Arcade came out, Sears decided that they did not want to have a title that was not an already proven seller. They simply repackaged Street Racer as Speedway II. Funny that I havent seen more posts about this. has anyone played the game? I know that it wasnt commercially released, but I thought that I had the ROM. A check of StellaX proved me wrong. IF someone wants to PM me the ROM, I'd be grateful. Buck This story was just for fun and 100% UNTRUE, please dont kill me! I'm only joking!!!

Was Speedway eventually renamed and sold as an Atari cart (as Night Driver), possibly? Let's keep the gag going

Let's keep the gag going No, Rob Fulop said that that one was based on the Arcade Night Driver. Maybe it was Dodge 'Em? Buck Again people - please dont kill me or my accomplice sku_u
NovaXpress #8 Posted January 13, 2004 Hey Buck, if you're gonna drop some false propaganda on the newbies you should at least make it more believable for oldsters like me. What's the point anyway? There's enough false stories going around about a hobby and art form we supposedly care about, why add to the trouble?

If anyone read the subtext, they'd see that it was a joke.
Buck #10 Posted January 13, 2004 Just a little fun. I'll quit now. Sorry to offend. Buck
NovaXpress #11 Posted January 13, 2004 Most people don't read the subtext (I ddn't bother since I knew that you guys were smarter than that and had to be playing a prank). Sure that's their own fault, but I just know we're gonna see this info spread around later on one of the lesser classic gaming sites. It's all great to make jokes like that when it's clear that its a joke. We're doing it with that new Hulk thread now. I hate this subtext thing that you people like to do, what's the point except to slip something past the new people or those who don't care enough to enlarge the text? Feel free to do it though. I used to be annoyed by the new kids with their obvious questions but we might as well just give em the info and send them on their way. Do you really want AA known as a place which spreads false info for the amusement of its veterans?

Yeah, I can see your point. I guess my perception of what was clear as joke was a little different. My thinking was that if one were to quote when you reply, the subtext goes to the same size and is very clear to any reader. But again, your point is taken. I am sure there are plenty of readers that arent going to post and would never see the subtext. Do you really want AA known as a place which spreads false info for the amusement of its veterans? Nope. If I wanted that I wouldnt have bothered with the subtext. I was just looking to have a little light hearted fun. Again, sorry to offend. NovaXpress #13 Posted January 14, 2004 I'm sorry to come on too strong, I should have made my point with more of a sense of humor.
sku_u #14 Posted January 14, 2004 I thought it was pretty clear that it was a joke. Even if it wasn't, the cat would have been let out of the bag eventually (like it was with the Atari 2600 Turbo prototype) |
NovaXpress #15 Posted January 14, 2004 I still think I have a good point, although Im never the most diplomatic at making a point. I've been reflecting on the hobby over the last week and how many of us really screw with the new people more than we should. The Turbo prank was on April Fool's and was heavily promoted by the site so that was our own fault if we fell for it. It's much easier for bad info to be spread through these smaller threads. I still hate that subtext thing.
