Gabriel #1 Posted January 14, 2004 Over a year ago, I posted a little advertisement at work asking for any videogames that no one wants. I figured the ad never attracted much attention. I got a few inquiries, but not much happened with it. I eventually took the ad down. After I did that, I started getting responses. A while back I was GIVEN a N64 and a shitload of games (over a dozen). Also in the bundle was Pokemon Blue for the Game Boy. I kept the N64, the Pokemon game, and two of the N64 games. The rest I gave to a coworker who has a kid with a N64. Today I receive an e-mail asking if I want a Game Boy Color. Once again, I'm just handed the system for free. It's kind of a lime green GBC. I also was given Pokemon Gold, and a CIB copy of Pokemon Silver. Nothing was wrong with it beyond needing a new set of batteries. The moral of this story? Post advertisements at work! While its true that nothing I got was rare, it was FREE! Plus, I was curious about Pokemon but not curious enough to ever pay to buy it. Now I know that its kind of a cool little RPG. sku_u #3 Posted January 14, 2004 Sometimes free games come where you least suspect it. I once ended up with a small box of games that I picked up at a local American Legion Hall. Someone just left them there with a sign stapled to the box that said free. I got nothing special, but still, the price was definitely right
christianscott27 #4 Posted January 14, 2004 a japanese woman i worked with always viewed my hobby with amusement, i was always hinting that maybe went she went home she could do a little shopping for me. she pretty much told me it was a kid hobby and i needed to grow up...ah well. then one day out of the blue she showed up with a box for me. it was a superfamicom with 10 games, something her little brother had left around, old junk she said. made me so happy! Gabriel #5 Posted January 15, 2004 Today was good to me. Not only did I get the GBC stuff mentioned above, but check this stroke of good luck out. I was with a friend and thought to go by a Game Crazy shop on the way home. My friend didn't want to go there though. He wanted to go in GameStop and look for something or other. Not really having any real vested interest either way, I wandered to GameStop with him. I started browsing the NES, Genesis, and SNES games. Blah blah. Just about all of them were the same overpriced carts they've had for several months now. Then I saw it. I blinked a few times in disbelief, but it didn't disappear. Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen for the SNES. I snapped it up immediately. I still remember the days when Ogre Battle as a bare cart commanded $80 - $100 price tags. And, while it seems to only go for $30 to $40 nowadays, it was still a bargain. I walked out of the store with it for $19. Not a brilliant score, but I'm damn happy. Even more bewildering, SOMEONE gave up this cart for around $5 or less of GameStop credit. Where can I find these people?
tantone56 #6 Posted January 15, 2004 I remember my girlfriend had been ripping on me cause I like old games and I kind of got angry at her...So what does she do, the next day she showed up with some atari games that she bought at a vintage store ...she's a keeper

Gabriel #8 Posted March 10, 2004 The advertisement continues to pay off. Just a few minutes ago, one of my coworkers wandered into my office with the following: Genesis Model 2 A Sega AC adaptor (presumably for the Genesis, but maybe not) SNES AV cable Sega Genesis 3 button controller Third party Genesis 6 button controller with autofire 6-Pak Columns Sonic & Knuckles Nickelodeon AAAHH!!! Real Monsters Taz in Escape from Mars She told me the system didn't work. It may just need the proper RF cable and a cleaning. Right now all I now is that the power LED lights up. To me, the best thing out of this batch is the 6 button autofire controller. I had been looking for one with a decent cable, so this saves me some cash. vintagegamer89 #9 Posted March 11, 2004 True dat. I asked my dad to ask his co-workers at work if they have any classic game systems they wanta give up, and his friends going to give me a load of ataris, nintendos, and other classic systems sitting in his basement. Ask anyone any chance you get....The worst thing they can say is no.
JB #10 Posted March 11, 2004 I got a load of VCS and 5200 stuff that way. Asked a family member about their Atari stuff when I first got my 5200. They said no. But later, they were cleaning their attic out, saw the box, remembered I was interested... I got it instead of them selling it. Moral of the story: Even if they say no, it's not a loss. They know you want it, which puts you ahead of the game.
