ST CDs can't be read in PC.

Recommended Posts

I have some Atari ST CD-ROMS that I'm trying to read in a PC. The drive has problems trying to read them and eventually stops trying. Are they in a different format to normal PC CDs?

Its possible that they are not in ISO-9660 format which is the more universally accepted format that works on PC's, ST's, Mac's, Amiga's...

You may have a CD that is in Hi-Sierra format and older PC CD-Rom's used to be able to read them, but most newer drives and drivers don't seem to be able to read that older format that never took off...

There may be a utility out that can read them, otherwise pick up a null modem cable (Radio Shack still sells null-modem adapters) and download Ghostlink and run the Slave on your PC and the Master Program on your ST, then you can assign a directory on your PC as a drive that you can mount on your ST, then just copy of the contents of the CD over to that mapped drive serial linked on your PC and move it over that way.
