Kroko #1 Posted January 18, 2004 I remember that there was some kind of licence problem with the cuttle cart. Was this licence only necessary for the data transmission part, or is it also necessary to get a licence, if just the AR bankswitching scheme is used, but not the data transmission. slapdash #2 Posted January 18, 2004 I think it was that Chad was going to make the CC totally Supercharger compatible, and was looking to license the code from the copyright holders; but, in the end he decided to write his own routines anyway. So, IIRC, it wasn't really a "problem", just that it might have added cost if he had licensed it. But if someone knows better, correct me.
Buck #3 Posted January 18, 2004 http://www.schells.com/cuttlecart.shtml#Status Looks like he did licence it. He cites the expiration of the licence as a reason for not resuming production. Buck
SS #4 Posted January 18, 2004 I know that he was questioning whether or not to make the CC2 compatible with Supercharger files. I don't recall what the answer was.
Buck #5 Posted January 18, 2004 Yes, the CC1 is compatible. In fact, the cyberpunks donated copies of their "Stella gets a new Brain" archieve Cd for sale with the CC1. Russ Perry Jr.,was instrumental in getting the Stella CD made. (Russ, correct me of I'm wrong ) Buck EDIT: DUH! CC2 CC2! Yes it is compatible with Supercharger files. Works very slick. (Yes I have one) Buck
Kroko #6 Posted January 19, 2004 Thanks for your answers. I think he has licensed it. But what I actually try to find out is, if I would need to buy a license if I wanted to support the AR bankswitching in my flashcart. I would not want to use any existing code or design, just the specs. I guess not, but i want to make sure before I start looking at AR bankswitching because it seems to be very complex and i don't want to spend too much time if i am not allowed to use it for free. Buck #7 Posted January 19, 2004 A quote from this post: http://www.atariage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=21929 mos6507 wrote: So this thing basically does everything the Cuttle Cart does as far as banking schemes PLUS 7800 mode? Can it do Starpath RAM? Chad replied: (Yes it will be able to do Starpath RAM. But it does not have an audio connection so it would have to load Starpath games like the emulators do. Probably a replacement BIOS would have to be written for each multiload game that copies the correct code to the correct areas for each game. This frees me from having to license the product though as no part of the Starpath BIOS would be included. That should cover your question. (And Chad, if you read this and something has changed(since that was a rather old post) please clarify.) Buck
