Jasoco #26 Posted January 20, 2004 I pre-ordered Halo 2 a year and a half ago.. when Halo 2 was SUPPOSED to come out early 2003. No Freebie with it. But rest assured, if they suddenly do start giving out freebies with it, I will raise a stink unless I get one too... you know, for being the first person like EVAR to pre-order it... Hmm.. Maybe I should pre-order Duke Nukem Forever.. just to see what they say.
AtariDude #27 Posted January 21, 2004 I usually don't bother with pre-ordering games since I tend to wait until games become less expensive (under 20). However I have pre-ordered Counter Strike: Condition Zero as CounterStrike is one of my favorite games and it is interesting to watch as the release date keeps getting pushed back. Now I think it is set for April 2004 but I will wait and see if it actually ships on that date.
moycon #28 Posted January 22, 2004 The only thing I ever pre-ordered was the PS2 console. And later I kicked myself for it, I had played like maybe 2 or 3 games the first year I had it...better to have just waited for a price drop.
Jasoco #29 Posted January 22, 2004 The only thing I ever pre-ordered was the PS2 console. And later I kicked myself for it, I had played like maybe 2 or 3 games the first year I had it...better to have just waited for a price drop. I pre-ordered a PS2 back in the day. Sold my $50 ticket to a cow orker who couldn't find it for his children's Christmas present. I didn't feel like paying $300 that Christmas anyway, so I sold it to him. He gave me $25 extra. ($75 all together. It felt good helping him out. And I saved myself from buying something I most surely would have regretted too.)
Mendon #30 Posted January 22, 2004 I don't know how it is where everyone else lives but around me in Tampa, if you don't pre-order a new release (which involves putting a minimum $5 deposit down) from Game Stop and EB you don't get the game on release day. The last few big releases, including Balders Gate II for the Xbox, are **NOT** available to the walk-in buyers as both Game Stop & EB always claim they only received enough copies to cover pre-orders. Methinks this is just a scam by them to get people into their store frequently to pre-order (so that you are guaranteed a copy), and hopefully that you will impulsively buy something else while there. After all, how can they NOT get in enough copies to sell to walk-in's when Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, etc will have plenty of copies available for sale a day or two later?? Instead of these two chains getting me into their stores more frequently and buying items, I just buy from Best Buy now, which means GS & EB have lost sales. Major Havoc 2049 #31 Posted January 24, 2004 I pre-order games all the time from video game only stores. Places like EB and Gamespot seem to get games like a day or two before stores like Wal-Mart and Target. Some stores like Wal-mart and Target never even get some games in, like Steel Battalion, Ikaruga, House of Dead 3 w/lightgun and others. Like another poster said before, some GBA games are hard to come by, because stores only get a few copies of that game in. The freebies are also nice. I just got a cool Ninja Gaiden cloth wall scroll when I pre-ordered Ninja Gaiden from EB recently. I have Ninja Gaiden, Halo 2 and Metal Slug Advance on pre-order. I pre-ordered Halo 2 out of fear, because everybody and their mother was pre-ordering Halo 2 and I didn't want to be left without a copy the day it came out. titus #32 Posted January 24, 2004 "Steel Battalion" for Xbox, because I knew I wouldn't find it anyplace (two of them). Other than that I know I can walk into Best Buy a week or so after the release date and pick up a copy.
