The dream: Supercharger+iPod = Portable 2600 library.

Recommended Posts

Well since I recently obtained a starpath supercharger (thanks CPUWIZ!), I have begun to fantasize about creating a portable gaming library. I would store all the 2K and 4K ROMs I own on an Apple iPod Music player in WAV format. Then I could carrying the iPod and supercharger to transport a couple hundred games from my library, all without risk of losing or damaging the originals. Plus I would have all the great starpath supercharger titles on the iPod as well.

I know mp3 files won't work with the supercharger, so I would have to use WAV format. Has anyone else tried to load games into a supercharger from a portable music player? Any success or failure stories?

Cheers!

MP3 files work fine for me, I make the header a little longer (2 sec) and encode at 192kbs, I can fit 255 in my mp3 player

Good Luck

I am sure you can play them on any mp3 player as long as you can put wav's on it.

Below is a picture of the properites of my folder with the audio roms in it. It would take up quite a bit of room on a smaller mp3 player, but the ipods are pretty big if I recall. (not a mac fan)

It shows how big 400 roms would be in audio format though :)

Interesting, thanks for the info. I will have to experiment with MP3s as you have described.

How do you like the custom label on your Supercharger ?  :)

I noticed it was different. Did you do that? It looks nice.

Yep, it says Supercharger+ and it's much more colorful than the original. Thanks. :)

I actually do have some Supercharger files on my iPod. It works great! I have the Labrynth beta on my iPod. I'm not sure where I put my Stella Gets A New Brain CD, otherwise i'd have a lot more on it. And i'd use the software on the CD to make a load of 4K files too.

I know this has been asked before, but since Hozer isn't in business anymore, is it still possible to get the Stella Gets A New Brain 2.0 CD? And could you give me a link? (I'm too lazy to search for it.) Thanks.

Randy still has the CD available, $5 shipped (US).

How do you convert ROMs to WAV files? Do you just save them as .wav?

Use Bob Colberts MakeWav

I recommend using the flag -h2 (2 second header) if you are going to convert to mp3's

also use the flag -ts (type supercharger)

BTW, if people are concerned about filesize, I have been able to load Supercharger games using 8-bit 22khz mono wav files.

I don't know if the IPOD will play these, but they did work when I used makewav with my Amiga.
