eBay rating system unsafe!

Recommended Posts

I just read that the user rating system of eBay is very unsafe.

Here is the German (try Babelfish) link: http://www.spiegel.de/netzwelt/technologie...,283154,00.html

The problem is, that you can use javascript in your auctions and use that to completely change you ratings (incl. feedback etc.).

Ebay doesn't seem to think that this is a big problem and talks about "long term solutions".

Opinions?

Set IE security to "high". That blocks active contents, right?  :?  No?  :dunce:

Or don't use IE and disable Javascript.

But I doubt eBay works at all without Javascript.

Never tried... Anyway, one could try to take a look at suspicious, over-HTMLed pages (am I the only one who use plain text?) with java off and then turn it on again to bid. For what feedback means: with all-costs negs avoiders and retaliatory neggers, it's nearly meaningless to day.

Ah, yes. The old "InnerHTML" scam. That is a real pickle. That's why you always click the actual link and make sure it's actually on eBay and the numbers are correct before you bid.

eBay should really crack down on the flexibility of auction content. THey allow ANYTHING. Even styles and things that modif the layout. Or broken Table tags that result in messed up layout.

And the one thing that bugs me is people who DON'T use HTML use line breaks, but eBay displays all 50 lines of their posting on one mashed up paragraph that runs together. You'd think they'd add a checker to see if the person used no HTML and add the

tags themselves.
