Activision Patches

Is it me or does the criteria for the Activision patches seem to vary wildly. I mean, some I thought were crazy hard and others ludicrously easy. Is it that I'm an inconsistent player or do you also feel like there was some inconsistency in difficulty?

I guess that I'm very bad player, as I think they are all hard. Except for in Activision Anthology, I just think Barnstorming is Imposable.

I have never seen a patch in real life. I am not even sure if these were given out here in the UK. When I were a mere boy and friend of mine had a VCS and he could beat Dragster every run easily. He sent off his pic and recieved a Certificate instead of a patch. I remember him showing it to me.

 

Does anyone have any of these certificates? Or was it just this game in this country?

Hmm... Hadnt heard of that. Then again the only patch I ever sent in for was Pitfall's Explorer's Club. Man I wish I had sent in for the rest, like Decathlon's Bronze, Silver and Gold!

I am soooooooo close to the patch on that one! I've put the GBA Anthology down for a week but with just a little more practice I should be able to achieve it!

be sure to check your difficulty switches on barnstorming (and sky jynx for that matter). if you set it on the easy switch, there are less birds to dodge. you still need a perfect run to beat 33 seconds, but after an hour of practice i finally nailed it

That's right, on Barnstorming, both difficulty switched have an effect. One makes more geese appear and the other makes you fly LOWER through the barns. Both consume a great deal of extra time. Set them to B!!

 

Dragster club members originally received only the certificate in the very early days. Later, they received both a patch and a cert when joining the club.

I used to have the River Raid patch and I do again now thanks to buying it fromsomeone. Back then, and now, i still find myself playing River Raid for long periods of time.

You don't need a 'perfect' run in Barnstorming to make it under the 33 second mark.

 

Hit the second bird in the game with your plane (right after coming out of the first barn). That is the easiest path I can figure out for the game. It will change the formation of the birds and will allow you to have a perfect run after that. (I'm sure you can get a perfect run without hitting any birds... but I can't do it).

 

(Anyone around here remember the long thread about the barnstorming record? I can't find it anywhere and would like to re-read it).

 

Oh... and words of advice: Don't let your two-year old play with your GBA thinking he really can't do too much harm. I had almost all of the patches... and he actually found the options screen and reset all of the high scores

Ok... I guess I made a mistake.

 

I thought the patch was release after you got a sub 33 second game. As it turns out you have to get a sub 3.3 to earn the patch.

 

However, after spending an hour with the game, I just got 32.95 (and found a path where you can go through without touching the birds).
