Adrian M #1 Posted January 24, 2004 I've gotten pretty far and finished several quests. But I need help killing the first dragon that you meet in the Temple Ruins dungeon. I can usually knock his health down to about the "Badly Injured" status by using LOTS of wizard magic, in particular, I've found that the "cloud kill" spell used several times will get him to at least the "injured" status, but when the battle begins, I usually can't last. Aside from the usual monster summoning and missile spells, how do you beat this guy?
jetset #2 Posted January 24, 2004 Is yours xobx, ps2, gamecube? I finally got BG1 a week and a half ago and just finished it yesterday. Neat game! Is the sequel worth it? Does it pick up where the 1st left off with your character having been beamed to another planet kinda thing???

The Eidolon #4 Posted January 25, 2004 You don't need to fight the shadow dragon to finish the Temple Ruins quest--you can get a wardstone that will let you bypass it. If you want to fight it, having a high enough level party makes a huge difference. I did almost all the chapter 2 and 3 suquests before taking on the dragons, and by that point (mid teens levels) they aren't too hard. Harm is a very popular spell if you can land a hit--takes them down to a few hit points. Spider spawn is a very good summon. Don't forget to use potions and wands if you are of lower level. Baldur's Gate II is a very good game--most people say it is better than the first, and so far i can't disagree. Check out baldurdash.org for a lot of bugfixes, cheats and a forum if you ever want more detailed advice. --The Eidolon

I cleared out the entire top floor of the Temple Ruins Dungeon, finished the riddle puzzle and did the ghost quest and the letter-tile thing. Where would this wardstone be? My party members are at around levels 11 to 13. I lost Mazzy and Valgyar to some kind of permanent domination spell when I fought the vampires over in the Windspear Hills dungeon...they stay red and nothing I cast on them reverts this. I must be missing something obvious there, but then again, my Baldur's Gate II Collection set doesn't come with any printed documentation. I'll check out the baldurdash.org as you suggested! This is a great game, no small compliment from someone like me who practically hates RPG's!
Mr.FoodMonster #6 Posted January 25, 2004 Hah, thats how I felt to. I usaly HATE all RPG's (well, not Mario and Luigi) and I played a demo of BG:DA and bought the game. Cant wait to go out and get this one!

The versions available for XBOX and PS2 are completely different.

The Eidolon #9 Posted January 25, 2004 The Valygar/Mazzy hostile thing is a known bug due to some sort of a script error I think. Mazzy starts calling Valygar her squire, and if one or the other is hit by a mind control attack the other can become permanently hostile I think. Baldurdash.org has an autoexecutable to fix all the known errors like this. (there are a ton!) You can also install the fixes indvidually if you only want some of them, but I've had very good luck with the whole fixpack. I don't remember where the wardstone is, but check out this site for some nice maps and walkthroughs: http://mikesrpgcenter.com/bgate2/index.html Gamefaqs also has some nice guides. --The Eidolon
Adrian M #10 Posted January 25, 2004 The Valygar/Mazzy hostile thing is a known bug due to some sort of ascript error I think. Mazzy starts calling Valygar her squire, and if one or the other is hit by a mind control attack the other can become permanently hostile I think. That's exactly what happened! I'll search out the bug fix since I thought Mazzy had potential in my party! I don't remember where the wardstone is, but check out this site for some nice maps and walkthroughs: http://mikesrpgcenter.com/bgate2/index.html Gamefaqs also has some nice guides. Actually, the 3 ghosts in the Temple Ruins dungeon had the wardstone. But I know what happened...Valgyar was holding the wardstone and now that he's under that buggy "permanent domination" spell, I have no way to get it back, short of applying the bug fix. Thanks for your suggestions and help, Eidonlon! You've been most helpful!
