bjk7382 #4 Posted January 25, 2004 90% of the time it is a broken wire inside the main wire. You can test the wires with a multimeter that has a continuity setting. Sometimes it is just a loose/broken metal dome switch.
Susuwatari #5 Posted January 25, 2004 Also the stick shaft could have a broken outter ring that prevents the contact from being closed. With the joystick in pieces, bend the outter ring on all 4 contact points. If any one or 2 feels very loose or if the ring is spilt, it's broken. old-new-guy #7 Posted January 30, 2004 Hi When you test the wires what would be a good ohm reading. Because I have one controler that wont go up, It is an original controler with the springs in it ,and I would like to fix it. it had one bad switch I replaced the switch, still no up, removed board, placed in a known good controler works nearly perfect. So I belive there is wire problem, I have checked the wires all seem ok, would like to know what kind of ohm read you would likely see. Also what/ how to clean the controler plug-in, female end. Time for work gotta go!!!! Thanks Ron
+-^CrossBow^- #8 Posted January 30, 2004 I have cleaned the female ends of the controller plugs using common pipe cleaners...hehe. dip em in Alcohol and give those controllers plugs a good bit of the ole In/Out.

+-^CrossBow^- #10 Posted January 30, 2004 I have another trick also for the broken rings. I haven't really tested it fully since I tend to use either my Pro-line, Genesis controller, or my Wico sticks on my 7800 and 2600. However, if you get a lighter..and are very very careful. You can mend the broken ring. If your really good, you can even mend it so that it can't happen again, because you will make it stronger... I shouldn't be giving out all my secrets should I...
