Got another bidder trying to use a credit card :-(

Recommended Posts

"PLEASE NOTE: I accept paypal, but not credit cards. Only Paypal CASH payments. Thank you. :-)"

Okay no big deal. So I told the person that they can paypal me by transferring money straight from their bank account. Also, I take cash, check, or money order via snailmail.

The person claims he DID pay straight from his bank account, not credit card. And he says that he doesn't mail checks.

Hmmm... doesn't mail checks. That's odd. How can you pay your heating, phone, and other bills without mailing checks? I suspect he's just trying to get out of buying the game.

You still dont get it do ya. YOu of all people being in Retail sales should know . I actually worked at JCPennys over 20 years ago. Dare I say Same Dept as you. Simply sports. Shoes Nike apperal ect. I was the no1 sales person from day one tell I left and moved to AZ to start my own business. I loved working there. No respsonsabilties Just sell and then go home. Back to the subject at hand. Most of The people that can only pay buy credit card Dont have any other way to pay. They are B R O K E You say Why cant they pay buy Check Money order Ect. They Cant they have no real money. All They have is credit The other 20 percent dont have time to mess with checks and such so they just write one check at the end of the month for there whole credit card. Its just easier. confused-smiley-013.gif

Interesting. Don't you use banks for money transactions in the States, as in tranferring money from one bank account to another?

Cheers,

Oh.

Well, I'm sorry I just don't want to spend the $1 fee. I agree that it's easier, but I'm trying to make money. It doesn't make sense to spend what little money I make off ebay on credit fees.

EDIT: I guess I have no choice. I have to upgrade to keep the customers happy. Grrr. Damn credit card fees.

As long as you try to increase bids thru the use of the PayPal logo with credit cards in your auction, you will continue to have this problem. You do not really accept PayPal so you should not be displaying that logo.

Sooner or later, someone will win and take the position that you refused to complete the auction. eBay will probably support there side based on your refusal to accept a payment sent thru PayPal.

When you clicked the box on the auction form stating that you would accept PayPal, you agreed to take PayPal, not your definition of PayPal.

If you really want to solve this problem, stop using the PayPal logo, do not mention PayPal in the auctions. Tell the winning bidder in your email to them that you will accept PayPal as long a credit card involved. Use a different email address for the PayPal account and eBay, they will not be able to send payment thru PayPal until you give them the email address to use.

It is up to you to solve this problem that you keep complaining about. Stop confusing the bidders.

In essence you're saying that "Paypal Personal" accounts don't count as real accounts. Obviously I disagree with that notion.

I suppose I should get rid of the paypal logo. I doubt there are many people who would be upset about mailing a check.

No, as bank-to-bank transfers typically cost upwards of $35 here. :x

No, the "PayPal Personal" account is just that, a personal use account, not a business account. Displaying a logo with credit card icons on it in the "Payment Method Accepted" section of your auction indicates that you take PayPal credit card payments. How difficult is that to understand. This is form of bait and switch. If I see that logo in the "Payment Method Accepted" section of an auction, I expect to be able to pay via PayPal using a credit card.

There is a definite advantage to taking PayPal payments. The advantages are that many bidders will not consider auctions that do not accept PayPal. This usually leads to getting higher prices for the auction item, offsetting the fees involved.

You are trying to have it both ways, get the PayPal bidders yet avoid the legitimate fees involved in accepting PayPal payments via credit card.

Wow, that's amazing! Bank-to-bank transfers are the main thing overhere. My salary is transferred to my bank account by my employer and from that account I pay my bills. Most of the returning payments are automated; very convenient. There's no cost per transaction. I guess the bank makes enough money of your money being 'in their bank'.

Cheers,

Marco

Thats different. We have that here too, Direct Depost. It doesn't cost anything, and quite a few businesses require it as a term of employment. There is also virtual checks and auto-pay stuff for handing bills and junk. But thats also not really the same thing.

If you were going to try and lets say make an ebay purchase by going to your bank and requesting a direct bank-to-bank transfer from your personal account to their personal account, you're going to pay because it dumps a truck load of work and responcibilty on your bank to carry out the transaction. Every virtual transaction still has physical pieces of paper attached to them to document it in the system. This is mostly assuming that both parties in question are using different banks. I believe in-system transfers are generaly free or low-cost for many banks.

Yes Direct Deposit is quite nice! I haven't had to cash checks in nearly 4 years now! Also my insurance is automatically deducted from checking account. And I believe my credit cards all have online options to send payment with virtual checks as someone stated above. I typically pay them thru Paypal thou with that little billpayer thing.

The same is true here. "Direct Deposit" of your paycheck into your bank account is pretty much universal, as is the ability to pay most of your bills directly out of a bank account without having to write checks. Plus most people have debit cards, which act as a credit card (Mastercard or Visa) and take the funds directly from your checking account. There are no fees for making any of these types of transactions. In fact, some banks will give you a discount if you have direct deposit.

You are so worried about PayPal fees, but have you even thought about the fees you will be it with the first time that you deposit a bad check?

Good point.

You are the best buyer that I have ever had when it comes to money orders. I would say that I only receive 1/2 of the promised money orders for items that I have sold. If I take away the money orders that you have sent to me and the ones sent through payingfast.com and auctionpayments.com, the percentage would be a lot lower. Most people say that they will send the money orders, but my experience is that a lot of them never arrive.

It's not that it is "hard", it is just a pain. You have to make a special trip, pay an added fee, pay for postage, and then take it to the post office. Using a credit card is much easier. If I want something bad enough, I will bid on an item where the seller will only take a money order. For the most part I avoid anything that I can't get out of the way in a minte with Paypal.

@RCModeler

I think the best option - as it was mentioned earlier in the thread is not to use the paypal option in ebay... list it yourself, maybe using a graphic like the one I posted in your other thread. This way the only place that Paypal is mentioned will also have the disclaimer that you won't accept a credit card.

The guy said he refused to mail cash or check. Weird. So I agreed to take his credit card. End of story right?

Nope. Now he says, "I changed my mind, I don't want the game." Argh!!!
