Does anyone have a good used laptop computer for sale??

Recommended Posts

My old laptop that I use everyday died on me, I want to buy a good used laptop, I just want something inexpensive to use for email, searching the web, checking out Atari Age, you know nothing real fancy, I want to spend between $150 and $400, and would like something between 133mhz and 600mhz, 56k modem, 32 to 128 megs of ram, 2 to 20 gig hd, 12 to 14 inch screen, cd drive or dvd or would like to have a cdrw but not at all important, just want a good nice screen working older reliable laptop, not real picky, anyone have anything at all??

P.S. if anyone would be willing to look at my old laptop that can fix it please let me know, it is a old IBM thinkpad 365x, 10 inch screen, P133mhz, 32 meg, 6 gig hd. It was working flawlessly until one day nothing at all, took it to a computer repair shop, they said the hd,mother board, screen were all fine but that the power supply in the back of the computer was fried, and he couldnt get one or fix it. Anyone think it can be fixed, want to take a crack at it?? :D

I would say buy one that has a dead screen off of ebay. PS are not that hard to swap. Even sight unseen, its completely serviceable....

Good luck. Sounds like what you have would be worth taking a stab at. My Dell laptop I got was free because the screen was out. Gee, that took two minutes to fix..... :) Granted, its ancient, but good for stupid stuff.

You could have my old one for $300 shipped. Win 98, PII-266, 4 GB HD, and I'll even throw in a networking card with a dongle for high speed internet from cable modem or DSL. Always treated with care and still works good, but I upgraded so it's gathering dust.. I was going to use it as a loader for my Supercharger, but that's about it. :D

Wow, that computer geeks place is pretty cheap, are they generally those sort of prices on refurb units in the US. Theyre even cheaper than what I sell sometimes on ebay etc...

As far as the PS goes on the 365x I'll have a look at one when I get a chance, I have over 100 thinkpads in my office right now, a few are the 365 model I'm sure, if I work anything out I'll post a reply/pm you. If I was in the US I'd just mail you one anyhow, I have more thinkpads and spares than I know what to do with..............your unlucky to have a problem with one, theyre generally very reliable, thats why I use them.... :) (Plus they hold their price very well here in the UK)

Yeah, I buy parts from them a lot. Pretty good service and quick delivery.

If it's the power supply, those are pretty easy to find.

I've been looking for a nice used laptop as well. Just something simple that'll run Win 98 and Mozilla with no hassle as I'd like to surf while in bed. Battery is optional but either USB port or CD-ROM would be required (I have external USB CD ROM laying around getting dusty)

I wonder, would the PS unit be the same on a UK thinkpad as on a US ?

Its just a different adaptor, so the same voltage must be entering the actual unit ?

Too tired to start the thought process...........nearly 4am...... :| :?

I have used US sourced parts before (Including batteries), and as I recall most the stuff is made in the same few factories, US , Japan, and Thailand ????

(Off to look on the back of a machine)

I don't think. The power supply input would have to be able to handle 110/60 and 220/50 inputs. The outputs would be the same however, so other than the power brick itself, everything should be the same.

sorry, I dont mean the adapter/charger/psu or whatever you want to call it, I mean the actual power supply to the board from the adaptor input, I was guessing this was what River meant by the problem ? No ?

I understand that the charger is different of course, but what leaves the charger and enters the actual laptop must be the same as they share all the same components as far as I can tell. (US - UK)

Yes UKW, I did mean the PS coming from the board to the plug hole in the back of the laptop, not the charger wall plug thingy. I am looking at several offers from several AA members on laptops, so thanks to all who replyed, is there anyone else that has a laptop for sale?? :?:
