Nostalgic #1 Posted February 1, 2004 The Sunday edition of the Detroit Free Press has a weekly video games column called "Game On!". A few games are reviewed and a couple of short artlcles are given. Today (February 1), there were reviews of "Midway's Arcade Treasures" and "Activision Anthology"! There's also a brief snippet about the Jakks Pacific "Namco TV Games" system-in-a-stick. The reviewer liked both collections, and I was happy just to see retrogaming titles get any notice at all. Sadly, he did not mention the fact that "Anthology" carries seven homebrew games. One of the authors is practically in the Free Press' back yard! Oh well - at least "Anthology" got press! P.S. The article is not available online yet. It's only in print. Check http://www.freep.com/gameon periodically to see it a little later. (It should appear either tomorrow or next Sunday; I don't know how quickly the Freep publishes its print articles online.) RCmodeler #2 Posted February 2, 2004 Sadly, he did not mention the fact that "Anthology" carries seven homebrew games. He probably did not know those were homemade games. He probably thought they were Activision-made. I wonder if, ten years from now, some idiot at Activision will try and claim these homebrew games are owned by Activision.? And as proof he'll point to the Anthology and say, "See? All these games are copyrighted by Activision." It would not surprise me.

It would be very easy for me (or the other Homebrewers) to prove the opposite since it is clearly stated in the contract and my name is on the title screen. ubersaurus #4 Posted February 2, 2004 Was he reviewing the gba version or the ps2 one? There's no homebrews on the ps2 version. Sides, they aren't exactly a major selling point on the gba one except to atari fans. Midway's collection is lacking burgertime, but other then that, it's awesome. Nostalgic #5 Posted February 2, 2004 He was reviewing the PS2 version of "Midway's Arcade Treasures" and the PC version of "Activision Anthology". He doesn't mention the GBA or Mac versions of the latter. The article is now available here.

He was reviewing the PC version, which does include the homebrews. And... the Midway collection is missing Moon Patrol, too- which is strange, since some ads that came out before the game was released, mentioned Moon Patrol as being part of the collection. Maybe someone pointed out that it was Irem's game and they needed to double-check the contract?
