A2600 #1 Posted February 2, 2004 I have to come to a small conclusion thiese days... I want to thank SEGA for offering very durable boxes for the Master System and Genesis, to insure that most of my Master System and Genny games have a box compared to my other systems. Do you agree with me that the Master System/Genesis have the best boxes and thier systems are the most you can find boxes for??

chrisbid #3 Posted February 2, 2004 The plastic cases were good and the cardboard ones sucked. the cardboard ones are almost as bad as the oversized jewel cases used for sega CD and Saturn games but the plastic boxes did indeed rule for the SMS and Genny
tantone56 #4 Posted February 2, 2004 I tihnk the plastic boxes where good to The only thing I dont like are the new ones for dvd's and disc games... I brike my reservoir dogs movie getting it out of the case
Lemmi #5 Posted February 2, 2004 its too bad they didnt keep going with the idea of black plastic holders for their CD games, they were way ahead of their time back then i love the sound they make when you open the SMS and Genesis plastic game boxes
Adrian M #6 Posted February 2, 2004 The thing I really liked about the SMS and Genesis cases was the "textured" vinyl covering pocket (the sleeve where the game's insert is inserted into). On today's DVD cases, they use a smooth vinyl covering which scratches up way to easily and makes your DVD cases look "used". The textured vinyl resisted scratches and just held up better in general. titus #7 Posted February 2, 2004 That's one of the best things I like about the Genesis. The plastic boxes just worked better. Then near the end of the Genny life (well maybe a year or two before) they went to the cardboard boxes. Which was alright, it saved them some money. But I will always think that the Genny cardboard boxes hold up longer than the SNES boxes did.

There were slightly larger and boxier and had that shinier vinyl sleeving (similar to the scratch prone vinyl sleeves on today's DVD cases).

I forgot about that. I sold off my Genesis collection and now I am starting over. I don't have any EA games, at the moment. So that just slipped my mind. A2600 #10 Posted February 3, 2004 I like the Genny first run boxes with the same checkerd design background as the SMS but in black instead of white!!
chrisbid #11 Posted February 3, 2004 i liked that design too, but it was too restrictive for third parties, the red stripe was also pretty cool
A2600 #12 Posted February 3, 2004 i liked that design too, but it was too restrictive for third parties, the red stripe was also pretty cool What red stripe? Im sorry if this is dumb but when you said that Im not sure if you are referring to the Tengen red stripe ot what?
chrisbid #13 Posted February 3, 2004 later genesis games had a red stripe on the left, sega CD games a blue stripe, game gear games purple, 32X games yellow, and saturn games a silver stripe

Clint Thompson #17 Posted February 4, 2004 Haha... I would like to thank Sega for releasing the Sega Dreamcast. It's the only system I can still buy games for (which are in many cases cheaper then even a lot of SNES games, haha) The DC hit the floor hard and the prices on games are great! Slowly seem to be on the uprise but for a good moment when the ps2 and xbox first came out... everything was dirt cheap Sitting @ 192 and counting baby! oh yea... I know this has absolutely nothing to do with carts or cases.. but hell.. it's a Thank Sega thread so I figured wtf!

You are absolutely right, there is nothing wrong with that!! Thanks for the SMS, Genny and DC Sorry for Saturn (im just joking about the saturn just in case anybody goes against me, I never liked it that much)

That should run you like $2.99 total. I would also like to take this time to thank Sega for the Dreamcast
AtariDude #21 Posted February 11, 2004 The Plastic boxes was when Sega was doing no wrong with the Genesis. Hard to believe that they were once the bomb in videogames. Now they are just a developer for other systems. At least they know how to write fun games.

AtariDude #23 Posted February 11, 2004 Thank you Bryan. It is great to have an orginal Genesis like the one I purchasd back in 1989. The Genesis model I have is nice but I like the look of the original model
Bruce Tomlin #24 Posted February 23, 2004 The thing that baffles me about the SMS/Genesis games in the plastic boxes is that it should have been so easy to keep the instructions with the games, but they're often missing! The large jewel cases was a stupid idea. I hate jewel cases because their plastic is so brittle. At least with standard size CD cases you can find replacements easily. I pretty much will buy any Sega CD/Saturn game for a dollar if its jewel case is in good condition, just for the jewel case. And I would also like to thank Sega for the Dreamcast. The version before the ROM change, anyhow. It makes a nice emulator system.
Avid Fan #25 Posted February 23, 2004 About a year ago I was at Game Crazy. And there was this guy working there taking a bunch of Genesis carts out of the cases and throwing the cases into a trash bag. He later told the other employee to take it to the dumpster. I was in shock. I couldnt believe it. I should have followed the guy and taken the bag out of the dumpster (I had already gotten rid of my genesis, but those boxes could be considered priceless by a lot of people on these boards, I will never forget it.
